The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy
The Hitchhiker's Guide to the galaxy is a very rapidly changing book. One chapter they are flying through space hopelessly and the next thing they are in the biggest spaceship ever built, light years away. For this reason, I made my predictions very broad, but specific to the character. My predictions are based on prior knowledge of the characters, where the characters currently are in the story, and where I imagine them next.
"Welcome to your new home, you’ve been here all along, learn to rely on yourself, or else you wont last long." This is my prediction of Arthur Dent. The fortune welcomes Arthur to his new home of the galaxy, but reminds him he's been here all along. The fortune also tells Arthur to rely on himself, or he wont last long. Throughout the book, Arthur has relied on everyone around him to keep him alive off earth, especially Ford Perfect. "All right, so I'm panicking, what else is there to do?"(Adams 55). The sooner Arthur comes to terms with his new life, the better. Hopefully it doesn’t take too long.
"You have it all, more than money can buy. You shall learn the truth, and then you will die." This is Zaphod Beeblebroxs fortune. His fortune states that he has it all, more than money can buy. This is referring to all the power and fame he posses. He shall learn the truth, and then he will die. Now before I continue, let me tell you that Zaphod has two heads. I didn’t mention this earlier because it was not needed. I stopped reading at a point where these four characters were deep inside of a ancient planet called Magrathea. Zaphod was explaining how he is unable to access parts of his mind. "last night I was worrying about this again. About the fact that part of my mind didn’t seem to work properly. Then it occurred to me that the way it seemed was that someone else was using my mind..."(Adams 145) He goes on to explain that he found a whole section within each of his brains that related to each other, but not to anything else around it. He then explains that the initials Z.B. were burned into these sections. Right after all of this, gas starts pouring into the room and they all pass out. My prediction is based off of this. I believe he will learn a large secret, and then die. This secret might relate to his brain, or it might relate to who holds the power in the universe. As I stated earlier, only 6 people in the whole galaxy know how the government works, and I feel as if he might learn who these 6 people are. Either way, it's gonna be big.
"Find a new man, or things will get worse. You first walked upon earth, now you hold the universe." This is trillians fortune, which states that if she does not get a new man, things will get worse. Things are already bad for trillian. She was forced into stealing the largest spaceship in the galaxy with zaphod and they are being hunted by the government. Zaphod is a trouble maker and is full of himself."If there's anything more important than my ego around, I want it caught and shot now"(Adams 98). I predict if Trillian stays with Zaphod, Zaphod will push the limits and go to far.
"First name Ford, last name Perfect, traveling the world, expanding his intellect." Ford Perfects fortune is the only bright one. It states that his first name's Ford, last names Perfect. This has been the most specific fortune so far, by actually stating a characters name. The fortune also says he is traveling the world, expanding his intellect. I am predicting Ford Perfect will get out of his current situation and return to his life of hitchhiking. After being stranded on earth for 15 years, he must be anxious to return to his old life. "Ford couldn't sleep. He was too excited about being back on the road again. Fifteen years of virtual imprisonment were over."(Adams 111).
