Nowadays, food production is under the global demand for food. (AGRICULTURE AND ITS ENVIRONMENT) It means that there are still many people don’t have enough nutrition to ensure their health since food is not enough. Also, it’s a big problem that agricultural engineers are coping with. This essay will talk about different solutions of food shortage.
“Historically, the great hunger of Ireland (1845-1847) and the famine of Bengal (1944) have been attributed more to British political decisions to export locally produced grain supplies without compensating imports than to production shortfalls per se (Woodham-Smith 1962; Sen 1981).” (Food shortage) We can see that food shortage is one of the most serious problem of governments and agricultural engineers all around the world as the food is one of the most essential stuff that make human survival. Food shortage is food supplies can’t provide the nutrients and energy that regional population needed. (Food shortage) So we should think about how can we solve it? Do not waste food in our daily life is one of the method, but actually, the key of the problem is how to produce more food in limited land. Because the land is very restricted and people can’t reclaim excess land as agricultural land. Depend on this, we can know that agricultural engineers have an enormous pressure of solving the

food problem. If we want to figure our food shortage, we need produce more food on same dimensional land or find more ‘land’ to grow grains.
Firstly, agricultural engineer should think about how to increase food production in same unit soil. As mentioned above, if we want to solve food shortage, we can start with two aspects. Improve the land utilization rate is one of solutions. For instance, “The adoption of modern technology such as “precision farming” – a new technique that boosts crop yields and reduces waste by using satellite maps and computers to match seed, fertilizer, and crop protection applications to local soil conditions” (2013,Using Modern Agricultural Technology to Increase Production, Food Security, and Profitability) It is the method that Cambodia used to increase their food production and have a great achievement in domestic agriculture even in international. It brings us a clear thinking that we can improve the quality of the soil also make sure the quality of the seed. the According to this example, we can know that in the future we can not only use the modern technology to help check the quality of seed and soil, but also boost the yield of seed like Doc. Yuan did to satisfy the global population’s food consumption.
For the second aspect ---- discover more land to grow grains, there is a distinguished experiment called soilless culture. Just as its name implies, this kind of

skill is grow the vegetable without soil. But how can support plants? Actually, there is a pipe under a line of vegetable to support them, also send nutrients that plants need and water to vegetable to ensure the healthy of the food. (SOILLES CULTURE of Greenhouse vegetables) Although we can not reclaim more land to produce food in order to protect the environment, we can use technology to let plants survival without land. If soilless culture use widely around the world, we can not only protect the environment but also produce more food to solve food shortage. Now, we can just use soilless culture to grow some fruit and vegetables, maybe in the future, we can use it to grow trees and some endangered plants.
Soilless culture helps us solve the problem of limited land on the earth, but with the develop of space technology, we can know about other stars deeply. So we can use other stars’ resources to help us deal with the global issue. It means we can use other star land to grow the food, like modern vegetables. “Fifteen modules containing root media, or root modules, have been launched to the station and 20 separate plant growth experiments have been performed.” (2010, Growing Plants and Vegetable in Space Garden) This evidence shows that growing vegetable and plants in space is possible in the future. Because of that, the influence of food shortage can decrease gradually. Almost space plants are grow in the Moon and space stations now, so

maybe we can explore more stars or build more space stations in the future to figure out the lack of the food.
In conclusion, the most important factors about food shortage are the lack of land and low land use rate. If we want more people live in a healthy life style, we must solve these two difficulties. I wish I can also take part in saving the hungry people in the world in the future and the world will better.
