My name is William Harber. I am senior at Etowah High School. For my senior project, I chose to build a night fishing rod. After graduating high school, I will be attending Georgia-Southern University to study Civil Engineering and Construction Management.
For my paper topic, I decided to research advancements in fishing reels. I researched night fishing’s impact on society, its difficulties and how it came to be in general. I learned that night fishing is a fun way for many people to put food on the table.
My product for my senior project is a fishing rod and reel, specifically for night fishing. It directly relates to my research paper because I explore the advancements and influences in night fishing. Some obstacles I had to overcome were disastrous night fishing exhibitions and finding the proper lures. However, once my product was complete, night fishing became a very fun activity.
Exploring the advancements in reels relate to the career of design. I learned how night lures are properly used and when they are the most effective. Although it is my favorite recreational activity, I do not plan to fish as my career. My career involves the designing of bridges, pipes, and dams.
The senior project was a brutal process. However, the relentless computer work and constant product improvement was not for nothing. The completion of my product was more a rewarding experience than a time consuming one. I would like to thank the ladies and gentlemen before me for taking time off from their jobs and families to judge my product.
