Visit the Villages Tractor Trek 2017
Event Date: July 8th, 2017
Visit the Villages Tractor Trek is in its 10th year as a signature fund-raising event for Eden Foundation. Over the past ten years the Tractor Trek has visited 25 different villages or village locations, all south of Hwy #14. The ride this year is scheduled for Saturday July 8th, heads westward and then north with Pembina Thresherman’s Museum as the final destination. Visit the Villages Tractor Trek is a fund-raiser to support mental health recovery programs for individuals living in our Southern Health region. The funds raised make a direct impact in supporting people on their mental health journey.
This is a special year as it is a celebration of the fact that it was 50 years ago that the Eden organization began.
The list of events include:Wagon Back-up—Back up a four-wheel wagon without going out of bounds.Barrel Roll—Roll a barrel from start point to finish without going out of bounds or crushing it.Blind Man’s Leap—Drive blind-folded (we’ll likely use a welders mask) for a distance of 20 feet and stop. Closest to the line wins.Chain Fold—Fold up a 20 foot chain onto a 2 foot square by driving forward and backing up.Slow Race—Slowest tractor wins. No you can’t use the clutch!Balance Beam—Balance your tractor on a teeter-totter beam. Quickest time wins.

Your Mental Health
Mental health means striking a balance in all aspects of your life: social, physical, spiritual, economic and mental. Reaching a balance is a learning process. At times, you may tip the balance too much in one direction and have to find your footing again. Your personal balance will be unique, and your challenge will be to stay mentally healthy by keeping that balance.
In this section, you will find suggestions to help you strike and keep your balance.
Children, youth, and depression
While we may think of low mood or other challenges as adult problems, they can affect people at any age. Children and teens can experience mental illnesses like depression. Sometimes it can be difficult for adults to understand how difficult children’s problems can be because we look at their problems through adult eyes. But the pressures of growing up can be very hard for some children. It’s important that we remind ourselves that while their problems may seem unimportant to us, they can feel overwhelming to young people. It’s important to take depression in young people seriously.

We all feel angry sometimes. Most of the time, we can deal with feelings of anger or irritability quickly. We may resolve the situation or look at the problem from a different perspective. However, anger can cause problems in our lives and the lives of those around us. Learn more about recognizing problem anger and taking action.
Loss is one of life’s most stressful events. It takes time to heal, and everyone responds differently. We may need help to cope with the changes in our lives. Grief is part of being human, but that doesn’t mean we have to go through the journey alone.
Mental Fitness Tips
Think about your emotional well-being. Assess your emotional health regularly. Consider the particular demands or stresses you are facing and how they are affecting you. Give yourself permission to take a break from your worries and concerns. Recognize that dedicating even a short time every day to your mental fitness will reap significant benefits in terms of feeling rejuvenated and more confident.
Mental Health Meter
Assessing our mental health is not as simple to do as measuring our physical health. There are no scales or endurance tests that rate mental fitness. But with the help of the Canadian Mental Health Association’s Mental Health Meter, you can reflect on your unique strengths and identify areas where your level of mental fitness could be improved to help you cope with all of life’s up and downs.
Mental Illness in the Workplace
For people experiencing a mental illness, a good work/life balance is critical. The relationship between stress and mental illness is complex, but certainly stress can exacerbate mental illness for some people. In fact, according to Statistics Canada, employees who considered most of their days to be quite a bit or extremely stressful were over 3 times more likely to suffer a major depressive episode, compared with those who reported low levels of general stress.
Mental Illnesses in the Workplace
Work is important to our well-being. In addition to the income it brings, it can be a big part of our identity, how we understand our skills, and a way to contribute to something bigger. However, a mental illness can have a big impact on the way we work.
Separation and Divorce
Some marriages end suddenly while others seem to fall apart over a long period of time. No matter what the cause, if your marriage fails, you are likely to feel a whole range of intense emotions: sadness, anger, hurt, fear of an uncertain future, loneliness, confusion over the many decisions you must make, and a sense of failure at your lost plans and dreams.
We all talk about stress, but we’re not always clear about what it is. Stress comes from both the good and the bad things that happen to us. If we didn’t feel any stress, we wouldn’t be alive! Stress may feel overwhelming at times, but there are many strategies to help you take control.
What's Your Stress Index?
Stress can be difficult to understand. The emotional chaos it causes can make our daily lives miserable. It can also decrease our physical health, sometimes drastically. Strangely, we are not always aware that we are under stress. The habits, attitudes, and signs that can alert us to problems may be hard to recognize because they have become so familiar.
Find your stress level right now by completing this test.
