Dear Islip Middle School Band Parents/Guardians and Students,
Hello and welcome! My name is Alana DeStefano and I am the new Middle School Band Director for the 2016-2017 school year. Thank you so much for your continued commitment to the Islip Music Program. I have created this pamphlet so that you can have easy access to important dates, grading policy, course requirements, and contact information. I know that with diligence and teamwork, we can have an amazing year. I am looking forward to working with all of you!

Students can earn up to 2 points per rehearsal based on their attendance, participation, and conduct (Worth 50%
of grade in 1st and 3rd quarter, and 40% of grade in 2nd and 4th quarter).
Students must attend all band rehearsals. Rehearsals are every other day during 0 period from 7:35-8:15 a.m. (If you are on time, you are LATE!). Seventh and Eighth Grade Band meets on Days 2, 4, 6. Sixth Grade Band meets on Days 1, 3, 5.
**Students are only allowed to miss three (3) rehearsals a quarter because of extra help, PROVIDED THEY BRING ME A NOTE FROM THEIR TEACHER BEFOREHAND.
Group lessons rotate in a 6-day cycle to ensure fairness with other teacher and classes. (Worth 50% of grade in 1st and 3rd quarter, and 40% of grade in 2nd and 4th marking periods). In lessons, students are expected to play their best, come prepared to play the assigned music, be willing to participate and play when asked, interact in a kind and positive manner with their classmates, and be attentive.
**Lessons will always be the same day as a band rehearsal.
Worth 20% of grade in 2nd and 4th marking periods. Students are expected to arrive at each performance on time, in proper concert attire, with their instrument and music, and displaying proper concert etiquette and behavior.
In the event you must miss a concert performance for a severe or non-negotiable reason, please let me know in advance AS SOON AS POSSIBLE and arrangements will be made for the student to make up the grade via academic work.
