Even though the winner of the Battle of Stamford Bridge was King Harold Godwinson.
The battle of Stamford Bridge marked the end of the Viking Age where many Norwegians died in the battle.
In January 1066, King Edward the Confessor died. Since he had no kid, many contenders across Europe wanted to take over the throne. One of them was Harold Sigurdsson. He was the king of Norway.
It is estimated that Harold Sigurdsson took around 7,000 to 9,000 soldiers in the Battle of Stamford Bridge. In September, they arrived in English coast. Tostig Godwinson was the brother of the King Harold who took side on the King of Norway. He also recruited the forces in Scotland and Flinders to join the army of King of Norway.
Tostig was upset that his brother was appointed as a king. In 1065, he was exiled and eliminated from his post as Earl of Northumbria. Get facts about Battle of Britain here.
