My name is Victoria Charles, but I prefer to go by Tori. I am a Type One Diabetic and have been for over 15 years. My goal for this project was to experience the process of animation that is required to make a short cartoon and look further into my interest as an Animator. For my project, I drew over 1400 frames, or pictures, to complete a roughly one minute animation. The animation is a visual representation of what and how I did my Senior Project.
My research paper focused on the process and materials needed to create the cartoons seen on television today. There are many ways to create an animation. For mine, I hand-drew each frame on my computer. This is called digital art. However, it can be done on paper, also known as traditional art, but it is not practiced often anymore. There are also many types of software that can be used. I focused my research on what is commonly used to animate today. I learned that as more techniques and programs came out, the easier animation became.
I greatly underestimated the time it took to complete this animation. I spent over eighty hours working on it and putting it together. When I finished, I was very proud of myself. I learned that there’s a lot more to animation than it seems. As a person who has never animated before, I was glad I was able to successfully complete this challenge. One of the main obstacles I faced was keeping the motion flowing and smooth. It was very difficult, but my art and abilities have grown.
Ever since middle school, I have wanted to be an animator. I have learned many aspects from this project such as the process, the money, and the patience it takes to complete an animation that only lasted a minute. My appreciation for animators has grown and has influenced my desire to pursue this career in a positive way. The experience helped me realize I desire to do it even more. I do realize now though that I need to work very hard to get to the position where I can make a career out of it.
The Senior Project was helpful in many ways. It helped me realize my dream and gave me a chance to experience it firsthand. I am very grateful for it.
