The situation or background introduction:
A water wheel is a machine for converting the energy of flowing or fall spinning water into useful forms of power, often in a watermill, the flowing and dropping water wheel. The wheel shaft it’s connected to a simple coil generator that produces electricity. The water then falls down onto the blades of the waterwheel, pushing the wheel forward. The fact that water is introduced at the very top of the wheel means that the water falls the greatest distance, making the wheel highly efficient - from 80-90%.
Statement of the problem:
Design and build a renewable energy system that can reach a high sustained voltage
Be made from entirely used materials, except for any electrical components
Not require human assistance to work
Dimensions no larger than 1m x 1 m x 1.5 m (l x w x h) and no heavier than 10 kg
Utilize maximum efficiency of the renewable energy through design
A water wheel is a hydropower system; a machine for extracting power from the flow of water. Water wheels and hydropower was widely used in the Middle Ages, powering most industry in Europe, along with the windmill. The most common use of the water wheel was to mill flour in gristmills, but other uses included foundry work and machining, and pounding linen for use in paper.
Real life examples:
In China, famers use the waterwheel generator to keep warm instead of burn firewood or coal nowadays. The water power is a renewable energy, it can prevent the environment obviously, and use waterwheel is good for environmental friendly world.
Some water wheels are fed by water from a mill pond, which is formed when a flowing stream is dammed. A channel for the water flowing to or from a water wheel is called a mill race. The race bringing water from the mill pond to the water wheel is a headrace; the one carrying water after it has left the wheel is commonly referred to as a tailrace.
In our daily life, we can’t see waterwheel generators everyday actually. Because they are really big and usually be used in factories or on the dam.
