Summer Sixteen is a single by Drake which was put out because Meek Mill’s poor judgment with Drake.
Summary of song
This song is Drake’s announcement to the rap game that he’s on top and plans to dominate 2016. “Summer Sixteen” is split into two parts, the beat switches at the start of the second verse. The first verse is about Drake’s beef with Meek Mill, while the second verse addresses up and coming Toronto artists like Tory Lanez.
What these parts mean
1. “Looking like a damn football team All in the same thing All repping one thing Looking for revenge”
Drake compares his OVO Crew to an NFL squad. Football rosters can boast up to 53 players. They all wear uniforms and all work towards a common goal. In Drake’s case, his goal is to own the summer of 2016.
2. “It’s nothing personal I would have done it to anyone. And I blame where I came from”
No matter who would diss him, Drake’s insults and behavior would be justifiable in any situation.
3. “Six, six, six, six, six soon as I’m back in the city they throw a parade”
This is important because Tory Lanez said “I don’t know why people call Toronto the 6 and its not cool.” So drake says it multiple times to emphasize (prove a point) the fact that the name “6” was given to Toronto by drake himself.
How it all started
This all started with a line in the song R.I.C.O By Meek Mill ft. Drake.”Old ways, knew women, got to keep a balance, the girl of your dreams to me is probably not a challenge”. Meek thought that drake was directing that to him and Nicki, so he said this on twitter. After that they started “dissing” each other (I put one line from each song)
Charged up by Drake- “Cops are killing people with there arms up and your main focus is tryna harm us?” Drake said this because there were more important things happening like blacklivesmatter then Meek tryna start a fight.
Back to back by Drake- “This for y’all that think I don’t write enough they just mad cause I got the Midas touch”. Drake said this because Meek said that Drake doesn’t write his own raps.
Wanna know By Meek Mill- “When I threw that hook out I was trying to catch a big fish”. Meek said this because the hook is twitter and the big fish is Drake.
I'm da plug by Meek Mill- “You ain’t really write it, I'm like who's your stuntman”. Meek said this because he said if you don’t write your own raps who does.
War pain by Meek Mill- “Them chumps right upstairs, they know not to come down here playin no real OG’s”. Meek said this because when Meek was staying in a hotel, Drake came and got the room right on top of Meek’s room and was blasting (back to back) on repeat. Savage
Trap vibes by Meek Mill- “North side of Philly my side of town, bulletproof wipe when I ride around” Meek said this because of AR-AB he is a known local that is very violent and Meek Mill is not safe (especially not now)
Hype by Drake- “Last year I know you learned your lesson, I could gps you if you need addressin”. Drake said this because when he made this song he was wining.
All the way up remix by Meek Mill- “check up in that box, ain’t no shoe inside, ain’t no Nikes, yeezy’s or Jordan xxi’s”. Meek wrote this because drake showed how many shoes he has and how much he likes his shoes and how Meek is not as serious about shoes.
Western road flows by Drake- “Used to have secret handshakes to confirm my friend ships now days they be shaken my hand to hide the tension”. This is talking about how he lost all his friends.

The main idea of the song
The main idea of this song is that it is a diss track. Firstly, “Tell Obama that my verses are just like the whips that he in, they bulletproof.” This verse is a part of this diss track because he is insulting the president by making a statement against the presidents bulletproof and bombproof vehicle saying that his words are equally as powerful, metaphorically. Secondly, “Golden State running practice at my house.”This verse also supports the fact that this song is a diss track because is saying that he is very rich and has big connections with people. It also means that Drakes house is big enough to have a full size basketball court in it and that the Golden State Warriors can practice at his house. Lastly, “Now I got a house in LA, Now I got a bigger pool than Ye. And look man, Ye’s pool is nice, mine's just bigger's what I’m saying.” This verse is an important part of the diss track because in this verse he talks about his swimming pool in his 75,000 square foot mansion. He is also comparing himself to some of hip hops biggest legends like Kanye West, Jay-Z, Ice Cube, Dr. Dre, Eazy E, MC Ren and Yella aka (Yella wolf).
How this song affected me
This song makes me feel good because it has strong lyrics. From listening to this song, I've learned that it is a bad idea to mess around with Drake.
