what is civil engneering
Civil engineering is the design and construction of public works, such as dams, bridges and other large infrastructure projects. It is one of the oldest branches of engineering, dating back to when people first started living in permanent settlements and began shaping their environments to suit their needs. - See more at: http://www.livescience.com/47612-civil-engineering.html#sthash.IA2Y3Nvg.dpuf
building is very beatutiful, but we don't know build a building is difficult and aslo it need cost time one month, two months, eventhough one year, we don't know.
many teenagers want be a famous enginner, build a extraordinary building, but result is brick worker, just a few of people success
according to reserach, the number of civil engineers should increase slightly over the coming years.
importantce and applications of civil engineering
Civil engineers are becoming more and more important with time. Now, they are also responsible for looking after the fire control systems and installing quick fire exit points in the buildings they design. This will help in minimizing the loss of life during fire accidents. Civil engineering is one of the oldest of the engineering professions. Ancient feats such as the building of the Egyptian pyramids and Roman road systems are based on civil engineering principles. Another very important aspect of civil engineering is environmental engineering. In this case, the civil engineers are concerned with applications of various methods to purify the contaminated air, water and soil. The polluted system should be cleaned, the waste extracted and the purified constituent must be sent back to the natural system.
Civil engineers are also responsible for building good quality transportation systems like highways, airports, rail lines, sea ports, etc. A civil engineer is concerned with determining the right design for these structures and looking after the construction process so that the longevity of these structures is guaranteed after completion. These structures should also be satisfactory for the public in terms of comfort.
The School of Engineering (SoE), an integral part of the Faculty of Applied Science at UBC, was founded in response to a call from industry leaders and academics in the Okanagan. Today, the SoE offers three undergraduate programs in civil, electrical, and mechanical engineering and three levels of graduate programs (MEng, MASc, PhD) that continue to respond to the demands of local, national, and global communities.
The SoE comprises award-winning teachers and researchers, staff, and students, all engaged in a close-knit, inclusive learning environment with strong links to industry and government. At the undergraduate level, our common-core, design-from-the-start curriculum emphasizes interdisciplinary, project-based approaches to learning, and our final-year Capstone program provides opportunities to work directly with community stakeholders to apply skills learned in the lab and classroom. At the graduate level, the SoE focuses on advanced project learning, whether in professional upgrading (MEng) or world-class research (MASc and PhD).
It is an exciting time to be part of the SoE – we continue to grow, increasing in population, diversity, and programs of study. As we look ahead, we envision expanding our contributions to innovation in the Okanagan and beyond, further developing our international partnerships, and continuing to prepare our students to be highly skilled and responsible researchers and professionals.
