Flying paper airplanes used to be the fun we had in our childhood. There are four forces, thrust, lift, weight and drag, acting on a paper airplane in flight. The force balancing of paper airplanes are unlike the conventional planes. In essence, paper airplanes are gliders because they do not have engines to impel them forward in a horizontal flight. Paper airplane depends on its weight to keep it moving in a downward sloping path because of the gravity. Thrust and lift are two forces that can help the paper airplanes make a long flight. As you throw a paper plane in the air, you are giving the plane a push to move forward and it is called thrust. Lift comes when the air below the paper airplane wing is pushing up harder than the air above it is pushing down. The resulting air current which is moving over the wings will generates an upward lifting force called lift, which is perpendicular to the flight path, to counteract the opposite weight component of the airplane. The same air current which is moving over the airplanes also generates drag, which acts in the opposite direction of the flight path.
According to the research, people should choose suitable paper before they make a paper airplane. To make a good paper airplane, you should select a piece of smooth, hard texture and light weight paper. The reason is that the rough paper will increase the drag and the paper air plane will be unable to fly if it is too light. Also, heavy paper will shorten the distance of the flight. In addition, if the wings of paper airplanes are too large or too short will be not conductive to the flight of the airplanes. The wings that are too large will increase the weight of the paper air planes and the wings that are too small will reduce the lift force when the airplane is flying. Not only the size and the materials of the paper airplanes will affect the flight of the planes, the way to fly the paper planes will also affect it. You should fly down the wind when you are out of doors. If you are indoors, you should fly out of the planes at an angle of 45 degrees. Besides, some people blew on the airplanes before they fly them. This can increase the weight of the nose of the planes to make them fly smooth.

Design and build a paper plane that can fly better than the others.

Background- Describe the problem
The force which keeps the paper plane moving forward is the thrust; in this case, the different between the wing surface pressures can lift the airplanes upward when the upper wing surface’s pressure is larger than the lower side. In contract, the paper plane will go down. In contract, the paper plane will remain flying, In this case, how can we make sure that the upper wing surface’s pressure is smaller than the lower side?

We want to get a paper airplane that high quality, which means paper airplane, can not only fly for a long distance, but the material of the paper airplane is also strong. In this case, we came up with the following questions:
What kind of material is the most appropriated for the paper airplane?
How can we make the paper airplane fly for a long distance?
Besides, we need to find out what strategy should we use to fly the paper plane

Sapphire: In my view, the nose of the plane should has a little weight so that it will let the plane fly steadily. Besides, the wings of the paper plane should be wide and this can make the plane gliding better than other planes.
Allison ： The nose of the aircraft is not too long and we fold it for several times so that it will be more stable and solid. There is a fuselage wing flap at the back. Plastic bag is used to enable the plane to fly further
Charlotte: In my view, the simple paper airplane maybe can fly farther than the plane which is difficult to make. In my design, the nose of the plane will has little weight to let the plane fly smoothly. Besides, the wings of the paper plane will not be too big or too small so that it will not increase too much weight of the plane or reduce the lift force when the plane is flying.
Sharidan ： . As for my design, a steady paper plane is a good choice. Because I think the air resistance is better than any other paper airplane. In addition, the structure of the plane is steadier than other diminutive airplane. Besides, the balance weight is suitable to continue flying fleetly. Meanwhile, this paper plane is too easy to make. Finally, everyone could fly it easily and stably.
Oliver ： As for me, the simpler plane can also be better than the complex one. So I design this plane for six times and the final plane has the widely wing with the slim and graceful fuselage. This plane’s wing is very widely so it is easy o keep balance when we throw it to the sky, and during his flight, the plane can also fly high by wind action. The only defect thing for this plane is in the collar by the environment.

Making a long and pointed nose is a mistake; it will make the paper airplane under the lack of stability.

In summary, it is more important that we should improve our flying skills. Obviously, excellent skill could help our paper planes fly further.

Modifications can be made to most paper airplanes by bending, curving or making small cuts in the trailing edges of wings and in the airplane's tail, if it has one
Do not break the symmetry of both sides of the planes when you are folding. If the wings are asymmetric, the aircraft will be easy to turn a corner and cannot fly very far.
The proportion of the wings and the body of plane should be properly. The right suitable proportion of the wings and fuselage are basing on the shape and the texture of the paper. Try a few times will be able to find the best proportion.
Pay attention to the balance. By adjusting the shape of the paper plane, or with a note or tape to be properly loaded (if allowed) can regulate the balance of the aircraft.
