“Utilitarianism and Kant’s Moral Theory”
According to the Internet Encyclopedia of Philosophy “The Utilitarianism” is one of the best established and most influential moral theories. Comparable with other form of consequentialism, its main idea that, the theory has different form that can be used to decide if the acts we do are right or wrong. Utilitarian believe that the idea of morality is, to make life better by rising the number of good things that we do in the world such as pleasure and happiness and reducing the amount of bad things like pain and unhappiness.
The ethical theory of utilitarianism, has some advantage in the that can be useful to believe in what we do such as good or bad. Here are some of these advantages;
Promote happiness, mental and emotional.
Strong feeling of determination, making the choices and decisions that are the most important to us.
Helps us to make our own choices good or bad.
Gives us pleasure as well if we have pleasure in determination we become happy.
A few utilitarian reasoning is questionable and has some disadvantage, because involve disagreement with the concept that many people have about the basic principle of what is right or wrong. The disadvantage that utilitarianism has is that;
We cannot anticipate the future based in the utilitarian believe.
In the Kantian Ethic ( online book) stated that, “The Kant’s Moral Theory” is an example of a deontological moral that, doesn’t determine consequences if the act that’s right or wrong. According to Kant a good person is someone who always does their duty because it is their commitment.
Like every theory, Kant’s theory has some advantage and disadvantage according to Kantian ethics critics. Here some of these advantages;
The Kant’s theory is very straightforward and available to everyone.
Morality is a component of human action.
Morality doesn’t lean on motives such as (emotion, feeling, ideas, etc.), consequences or religious laws.
The disadvantage that concern to this theory are;
This theory is not always easy and useful.
People hardly act absolutely as they expect.
One the biggest disadvantage according to Kantian critics is that, Kant never spoke in his theory about what’s person’s issues with some moral acts such as, ( abortion, euthanasia, etc).
Between “ Utilitarianism” and “The Kant’s theory” the moral reasoning that is more acceptable for me, is the theory of Utilitarianism, because I prefer the advantage of have the pleasure of happiness about the good things that I decide to do.
