The word Personality ?
The term personality was taken from the two Latin words “per” and “sonar” which means “to sound through”
The two words were later coined to “persona” which means ‘mask’
What is Personality ?
Personality is the sum total of behaviours, attitudes, beliefs, and values that are characteristic of an individual

Nature vs. Nurture
The transmission of genetic characteristics from parents to children.

The biological or mental characteristics which are transmitted by the parents to their off-springs are known by the name of heredity
Heredity is, in other words, a biological process of transmission of certain traits of behaviour of the parents to their children
Heredity traits are inborn they are present at birth.

Heredity, no doubt has its influence on the physiological traits but environment is also the judge of our development.
A person’s behavior and personality are the result of his or her environment
The environment is everything that affects the individual except his genetic material

The child has his birth in the society. He learns and lives there. Hence, the social environment has an important say in the personality development of the child.
Family has much manner on the personality development of an individual. Parents behaviour and attitude, their expectations from the child, their education and attention to the child, influences the child's personality.

The cultural environment refers to certain cultural traditions, ideals, and values etc., which are accepted in a particular society. All these factors leave a permanent impression on the child’s personality.
After family school is the next socializing agent, by the fact that the child spends most of his time with his teachers.
Schools play an important role in moulding the personality of the children because a significant part of a child’s life is spent in school between the ages of 6 and 20 years. In the school, the teacher substitutes(as a replacement)the parents.
