When offering advice to Andy, I would suggest to him that he should practice scanning the audience when speaking. Making eye contact will make him seem more reliable. To lessen the intimidation of it, I would also suggest that he focus on sections of the room at a time. I might have him try to hold eye contact with the group members and I during practice so he could get used to maintaining it while speaking.
In the advice I'd offer my congresswoman, I would have to warn her of the peace sign gesture. As this has a completely different meaning in Italy, it would be inappropriate for her to do it. As this most likely wouldn’t happen when discussing economic relations, I'd still include it.
In order to critique your speaking skills, you must listen to yourself speak. Recording yourself and playing back will help you filter out all the unflattering/ unecessary slip-ups. When practicing to make my voice more engaging, I would practice fluency. Keeping a steady, fluent pace while speaking makes it easier on the ears. Personally, I need to work on my "um"s and "uh"s to make me seem more confident/ knowledgeable on my topic. Recording yourself helps with this a lot.
