God-Father God-Son God -Holy Spirit May God the Father bless us; May Christ take care of us; May the Holy Spirit enlighten us All the days of our life. The Blessed Trinity A man can be a son, a brother, a husband, a father, a teacher, and a Boy Scout leader. Some people call this man Mr. Jones or Tom Jones. His friends call him Tom and his children call him Daddy. How many men are there? Of course, there is only one. There is only one man, but this one man can do and be many thing to different people. Explain to the children that many names for the same person help us try to understand the Blessed Trinity. (You may wish to point out to the children hat God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit are just other names we call God but three Persons in one God. The unity of persons in the family an be used as another imperfect example of the perfect unity of Persons in the Blessed Trinity. Ask the children how many families live in their house. Then ask the Children how many people live in their house. Point out that one family has many people in it. Those people are all separate people, but there is still only one family. There are three Persons in one God. (Again, this does not come close to explaining the Blessed Trinity, but it does offer us a small comparison to use in teaching). Tell the children the names of the three Persons in the Blessed Trinity: God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit. We usually think of God the Father as our creator. He gave each of us life. The second Person of the Blessed Trinity is God the Son. He became man to show us and teach us how to live. Jesus is God the Son He died for us. The third Person of the Blessed Trinity is God the Holy Spirit. He helps us act as images of God. The dove is a sign of the Holy Spirit. God the Father is God. God the Son is God, and God the Holy Spirit is God. There are three Persons in one God. We call these three Persons the Blessed Trinity which means “the Holy Three.” We believe this because Jesus taught us about the Blessed Trinity. Discussion Questions: 1. A man or a woman can be and do many different things for different people. How many persons in one man or one woman? (one person) 2. How many Person are there in God? (There are three Persons in God—Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.) 3. What do we call the three Person in one God? (The Blessed Trinity)
