Friends and Family of Lloyd and Brent, we are gathered here today in this beautiful place on this special occasion to witness the marriage of these two people who have chosen each other and have mutually and willing agreed to enter into the union of marriage.
We are living in the most fortunate and modern of times when this kind of love is possible. For centuries and even millennia, marriage was an agreement between a father and a husband or two families. There was little or no mutuality. No “falling in love” and no choosing. As a prominent billboard recently pointed out “the fact that you can't sell your daughter for three goats and a cow means we've already redefined marriage.” The myth that there has always and forever been some sort of “traditional marriage” just is not true. How truly blessed we are to live in a day and time when people are able to get married for the reason you two are getting married. Because you love one another! Today, Love truly wins!
You found and chose each other and now that the civil law has caught up, you have chosen to enter into this union gladly, willingly, and because you are very much in love.
Lloyd and Brent, it has been such a gift to come to know you and I am deeply honored to perform this ceremony today.
We are here to celebrate your love for one another and the love that causes you to both believe you were made for each other. I listened to you both as you clearly said “I have no doubts…this is the person I love and with whom I wish to spend the rest of my life”.
Let me now read a scripture that adds the final and most crucial ingredient of all too any long lasting relationship.
I Corinthians 13: 4- 7
Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, and it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, and always perseveres. Love never fails
Lloyd, do you take Brent to be your lawful, wedded spouse? To Love, honor and cherish him, in good times and bad, in sickness and health as long as you both shall live ?
Lloyd: I Do
Brent, do you take Lloyd to be you lawful wedded husband, to love honor and cherish him, in good times and bad, in sickness and health, as long as you both shall live?
Brent: I Do
(Insert Wendy’s Part)
Lloyd and Brent have chosen to seal their vows with an exchange of rings,
(Lloyd takes ring and prepares)
Lloyd, repeat after me
Brent, with this ring, I pledge to you, my undying love, as long as I live.
( Brent takes ring and prepares)
Lloyd, with this ring, I pledge to you, my undying love, as long as I live.
Puts ring on finger
It is my joy and honored to pronounce you MARRIED
The husbands may kiss
