Hello, my name is Tafaria Brown. My goal in life has always been to aim for happiness! I was always told to do something I love so I don’t have to work a day in my life. As cliché as this saying might be, I completely agree! I found my love, theatre. Theatre has been a part of my life for almost 4 years now and I have never been happier. For my senior project, I wanted to explore parts of theatre that I have never explored before. I have tried my knack at acting and dancing on stage but I was heavily inexperienced when it came to playwriting and designing a set! So initially, I wanted to tackle creating an original one act play, and set design for my product.
My research papers topic was, Theatre throughout the years. My paper went in depth about how the community of theatre has grown over the course of thousands of years. I briefly discussed how theatre evolved into dramatic sightings to plays and musicals. Completing this paper left me with knowledge on how I needed to construct a play, for times that are more modern. My paper also went in detail about how theatre has an impact on our society.
For my product, I created my own original play. Along with the play, I built a set design to go along with it. When creating my product, I referenced to my research paper a lot. It gave me guidance on how I should construct a modern play. My play takes place in the 1930s. Therefore, I needed a good layout on how I should set up a play around this time. I have never done this before so it was a huge learning stretch for me; especially brainstorming an original idea.
My topic and research are factors of theatre. My dream career would to be an aspiring actress however that is a huge stretch. From completing this project, I learned that I would love to anything that has to do with theatre! I have tried acting and working backstage. However, after this project, I have tried writing a play and I designed a set for one! I learned how much fun this side of theatre can be and I know that I would love to pursue a career in the background of theatre.
Overall, I think senior project was definitely one of the most time consuming I have ever done. However, I am glad I did it! I learned so much, and accomplished so much throughout the course of the year. Thank you so much for your patience and time.
