FAITHFULNESS -- Sylvia Gullatt
Deuteronomy 32:4 – “He is the rock, His Works are perfect, and His ways are just. A faithful God who does no wrong, upright and just is He.”
Psalm 57:10 – “For Great is your Love, reaching to the heavens; Your Faithfulness reaches to the skies.”
1 Corinthians 1:9 --- “God who has called you into fellowship with His Son, Jesus Christ, our Lord, is Faithful.”
Galatians 5:22-23 --- “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control.”
With the Creation of the World [Universe(s) and all that is in it, including Man] God showed his Faithfulness to All Generations. . . He sent His Son, Jesus Christ, as an example to us. . .and The Holy Spirit as assurance that “He is with us, even to the end of the Age.”
He is Faithful, and expects us to be Faithful. Generations before us have preserved the Past, and built for the Future. . We show our faithfulness by loving others, teaching and encouraging future generations and continuing to show Jesus’ Love to All. . . through sharing our “Time, Talents, Gifts, Service, and Witness.”
From childhood, I learned of God’s Love for me, through the prayers and creeds of the church, simple scriptures: “Love One Another” and “God So Loved the World”. . . and songs: from “Jesus Loves Me”, to the great works of Handel’s “Messiah,” and new music that is still being written.
“Great is Thy Faithfulness” is one of the ‘new’ hymns that was added to our most recent United Methodist Hymnal. “The Gift of Love” has become one of our most popular hymns. . . . and for many of us, “How Can I Keep From Singing?” . . . “Hymn of Promise” and “Eagles’ Wings”. Other songs and hymns speak to us in Worship and Study, through various media, and when they just ‘come to mind’. . . It is my hope that we don’t lose the old hymns of the church, such as “The Church’s One Foundation is Jesus Christ, Her Lord. . . “Standing on the Promises of Christ, My King. . .” But, we still need to be open to hearing, and singing along, on new expressions of praise! . . . So that we are welcoming ALL – yes, even those who are ‘different’ from us – to participate in the “Kingdom of God on Earth as it is in Heaven.”
PRAYER: “Thank you God for Your Faithfulness, for your Son, Jesus Christ, for your Gift of The Holy Spirit. Increase our Faithfulness each day of our lives as we share the Love of Jesus, welcoming ALL, so that we will become ONE, in our homes, in our churches, in our communities, our country, and the Kingdom of God will truly come. . . “
