Personal presentaon is all about markeng YOU, the brand is you. What others see you do and hear will influence their opinion of you– so personal presentaon is about painng yourself in as posive a light as possible—always. Organisaons spend a lot of me and money working on their image, developing their brand and pro- ducing as many posive signals as possible. Staff in organisaons should know that everything they do relates to markeng for the organisaon, every email they send, every phone call they make and take, every me they interact with a client or customer. Organisaons also spend a lot of me and money recruing and training the right kind of people to project the right kind of image. Although personal presentaon is of key importance in presenng yourself formally such as in meengs, presentaons and work, it is less important in informal situaons such as socialising with friends. How people perceive you is important to communicaon and you should always aim to be viewed as posively and confidently as possible. (skillsyouneed.com) Companies and organisaons have policies regarding personal presentaon like the statement below ‘This policy aims to create an environment which encourages all employees to pro- mote a posive and professional image through their dress, appearance and per- sonal presentaon to encourage the confidence service users, colleagues and visi- tors have in the company overall’ 3 Version 2 Feb 2016 3 Areas of Personal Presentaon Self‐Esteem and Confidence Self‐esteem is not a stac thing; it varies based on numerous factors, different situaons and the pres- ence of different people, personal stress levels and change. Think about how you value yourself and learn to manage the highs and lows of self-esteem, find ways of appearing more confident even when you are not and learn techniques to boost your self-esteem and learn about your personality. Confidence is a measure of how well we think we may perform certain roles or tasks. Linked to self- esteem, confidence is how we feel about our ability. Effecve Speaking Your voice says a lot about you and learning how to use it more effecvely has many ben- efits. Factors such as accent, tone, pitch and volume all combine to give an overall effect. Personal Appearance The way you dress and take care of your general appearance are important factors in personal presenta- on, what messages does the way you dress send to others? Your personal appearance also includes the body language, gestures and other non-verbal messages that you use. By being aware of posive and negave non-verbal signals you can improve your image and the way people perceive you. Time Management If you don’t manage your me wisely you are less likely to be able to get everything done effecvely. You are also more likely to be disorganised and run late for meengs or other appointments. Poor me management also has an effect on how you are perceived by others As a group watch the video (link shown below).
