A Little Reality on Immigration
The author’s message in this article is mainly him talking about Donald Trump and the way he has affected North America and other parts of the world in his “ways” of dealing with immigration. The thesis in this article starts out in the beginning of the article that reads “Donald Trump built his campaign on the promise to build a wall along the Mexican border. The main reason for Trump’s decision on this wall of his is that he is done allowing illegal immigrants live in our country and not have to pay taxes that they should be paying just like every American citizen.
“Now Donald Trump brings Republican crowds to their feet by bashing the supposed criminal hordes sneaking up from Mexico.” The author David Brooks has great use of evidence and examples that helps support his article in the reality of immigration. He continues with facts about immigrants saying “The flow of total immigrants peaked in 2005 and has been dropping since. The share of immigrants coming from Latin America is falling sharply. Since 2008, more immigrants have come from Asia than Latin America, and the disparity is growing.” This clearly states that Donald Trump’s views on immigration really need to be checked because we need to have a different solution to our immigration system rather than his idea.
David Brooks does a very good job on utilizing his thoughts about Donald Trump’s views on immigration. He explains to us how the bulk of the evidence shows that immigrants have a hugely positive effect on total American G.D.P. while having little effect on overall wages. This makes us trust the author because of its summary that came from the National Academies of Science, Engineering and Medicine.
I also like the way Brooks explains how positive it would be for our country if we better focused our immigration topic on the immigration legal system. That we should not consider Donald Trump’s views on his “wall” because we are treating illegal immigrants as if they are alien invaders. Instead, we should be trying to “make the system ample and streamlined enough so that most people come here in the right way, in a way they can be vetted.” The emotion he shows by that sentence shows that he cares about every human being. That we should not have to ever consider “racism” in our country again, but also, have every legal citizen work for theirs and do their part to simply, make America great! The author’s purpose of this article is that the reality of our immigrants in the country has been getting real serious. The way Donald Trump is trying to up a wall along the borders of Mexico is just making it seem somewhat understandable but mostly crazy in his part.
My response to this article is first, I like the way the author gave his logos in the article because I completely agree with it. I agree with the way we should not support Donald Trump, being a Republican that is, that has a ‘no-mercy’ type idea about how the immigration system should be in this country. As the author of the article, David Brooks, stated how “ The Republican primary base is more and more made up of older people, who have significantly more negative views about immigration.” It just doesn’t seem like it will bring peace to our country and I believe that this is the best country to live in for a better opportunity for legal immigrants who are paying so much to live free in our beautiful country. Only if we are all legal citizens and all paying taxes like we all are. Not sneaking in here, living here for free because we all have to work to make the world a better place.
Secondly, I agree with the author as he talks about how the Republicans and their idea of a wall is so absurd. That we should not treat any immigrant as a “alien-invader” but we should most definitely do strict checks to make sure there is no drug-smuggling at all. We cannot afford to have drugs be smuggled in our country. But also as the author ends his article by saying that we need to make the legal immigration system plentiful and flowing so that immigrants can come in the right way.
