Perspective on Marijuana treatment for Emotional Disorders
Sowk 260 - Professor Leaden
Marijuana is being debated as to whether it should be used as a treatment for emotional and mental disorders. Such as anxiety and depression to start with by Nurse Ron Marczky, who is all for the legalization of medical marijuana as treatment for anxiety and depression disorders. Then we have Psychiatrist Robert Berezin, who opposes the legalization of medical marijuana as treatment for anxiety and depression disorders. In the body of this document we discuss both views of Nurse Ron Marczky, and Psychiatrist Robert Berezin, as well as my own perspective that I have form after reading their views and research that I have gather on the topic. And we will conclude with factual evidence that supports whether marijuana should be used for treatment for emotional disorders.
Nurses Ron, medical marijuana should be used as treatment for emotional disorders such as anxiety and depression. He states that the physical, emotional, and cognitive energy is the core of our health. Over the last few decades he’s obtained evidence that supports medical marijuana treatment such as medical cannabinoids can heal the brain in ways that shut down anxiety and depression (Sowk 2013). Nurse Ron provided evidence that medical cannabinoids have been used for healing the brain by strengthening the tone of CB1 and CB2 receptor by boosting retro grade signal strength that shuts down anxiety and depression to reset the brain system. The two men Lumir Ondrej Hanus, discoverer of endogenous ligand, anandamide from the brain in 1992. And Raphael Mechoulam, discoverer of the psychoactive compound THC, from cannabis Sativa in 1964. Both combined to the CB1 and 2 cannabinoid Receptors in the brain for this they were nominated for the Nobel prize in medicine in 2012.
Nurse Ron, also rendered information on how cannabis strains such as cannabinoids including tetrahydro-cannabinol, and cannabinol have been used to treat many health problems for thousands of years. The effectiveness of medical marijuana treating severe pain or nausea associated with chemotherapy and cancer and AIDS patients have been evident within the last few decades. The THC content of a strain rich composition of

As well as the endogenous cannabinoid system, has emerged as an important lipid signaling system playing a key role of mediating and modulating behavioral, chemical, neuroendocrine, neuroimmune, and molecular response to stress. The two-major system’s controlled by the (ECS) endocannabinoid system are the reaction to stress and the immune system. The fundamental of (ECS) creates emotional wellness by stimulating physiology and pathophysiological to peaks to promote personal self-actualization.
Nurse Ron, reviewed the clinical findings of how the endocannabinoid during recovery process gives therapeutic manipulation to the system treating chronic stress conditions in humans. Statistics of the use of cannabis or marijuana usage has never claimed any fatalities oppose to other narcotics. The 1970s was an era in which state governments in the United States and other localities around the world began decriminalizing possession of small amounts of marijuana (Barry, R., Hiilamo, H., & Glantz, S. 2014). Nurse Ron, feel that marijuana would relieve many mental health patients from a lot of pain and suffering which is why his view on the debate of marijuana treatment for anxiety and depression is Yes.
The other of person in the debate of wither or not to use medical marijuana as treatment for emotional disorders such as anxiety and depression. Is Psychiatrist Robert Berezin, view is to oppose the use of medical marijuana for treatment of emotional disorders. Psychiatrist Robert, views medical marijuana or cannabis as causing a destructive of consciousness. He also thinks it's users becomes passive, removed, intellectualized, and not equipped to take a challenge. Psychiatrists Robert, believes medical marijuana is harmful to society because of the much more potency of the cannabis of today than previous decades. Psychiatrist Robert, objects to the characterization of marijuana as a junior drug but more of a destructive psychotropic destruction to an individual’s personality. However, marijuana does not cause people to use hard drugs. What the gateway theory presents as a causal explanation is a statistical association between common and uncommon drugs, an association that changes over time as different drugs increase and decrease in prevalence. It is a description of the typical sequence in which multiple-drug users initiate the use of high-prevalence and low-prevalence drugs (Shuka, 2013).
Psychiatrist Robert Berezin, discusses the clinical case of his patient Eddie, who used the marijuana while treating for feeling of emptiness and loneliness. Psychiatrist Robert Berezin, proclaims that the marijuana contributed to his emotional shut down and his psychological functioning. Eddie felt as if the medical marijuana gave him a sense of superiority and a feeling I’ll participation and engagement in life. Psychiatrist Robert, identified this as marijuana brain. Psychiatrist Robert, indicates it took Eddie a full year to recover. Patient Eddie indicated to psychiatrist Robert that the marijuana made him paranoid. The psychiatrist Robert identified
this as marijuana anxiety. Indicating that medical marijuana promotes a dysfunction between thinking and feelings. In fact, it made his patient Eddie intellectual insight disconnected from his two feelings. Per A nondescript hormone that moonlights as a potent marijuana blocker in the brain may lead to drugs that help people curb cannabis dependence (Sanders, 2014).
Psychologist Robert, from his extensive clinical experience determined that the legalization of medical marijuana represents a sanctioning having to struct of alternative and consciousness which makes users passive and removed intellectualize feeling falsely special and not equipped to take on the challenges of life and his professional opinion. Psychiatrist Robert is especially concerned about teens users whose brain is still developing. Psychiatrist Robert has named medical marijuana has a mild to moderate hallucinogen and powerfully habituating.
The cannabinoids homeostatic healing perspectives supports the need for the use of medical marijuana as a psychiatric treatment.
But the DEA refuses to reclassify medical marijuana as a schedule to drug which would allow physicians to prescribe marijuana to patients who suffers with anxieties and depression. Psychiatrist Robert, oppose to the legalization of medical marijuana since as a society we are supposed to foster the floor and best development of our children into capable responsible caring adults with we need to oppose the use of marijuana.
After reviewing both Nurse Ron Marczky, and Psychiatrist Robert Berezin, views on weather medical marijuana should be used as treatment for emotional disorders such as anxiety and depression. I have my own perspective that I would like to share with you as well I agree with Nurse Ron Marczky, I believe that the usage of medical marijuana can be effective treatment for healing patients of emotional disorders such as anxiety and depression. Reason being is I view marijuana as a healing plant from nature according to the bible in (
http://www.kingjamesbibleonline.org/Genesis-1-29/Genesis 1:29 KJV)- And God said, Behold, I have given you every herb bearing seed, which [is] upon the face of all the earth, and every tree, in the which [is] the fruit of a tree yielding seed; to you it shall be for meat.
There are 85 natural compounds in cannabis, known as cannabinoids, which all relieve symptoms of illness by attaching to the receptors in the brain that look for similar compounds that occur naturally in the human body. Cannabidiol, or CBD, is the cannabis compound that has found to have significant benefits for treating people with anxiety. CBD-rich cannabis can be treated for patients seeking anti-inflammatory, anti-pain, anti-anxiety and anti-spasm affects. Per the American Academy of Paediatrics, these natural compounds that make up the genetics of medical marijuana, can be a therapy treatment for several medical conditions (Ptasevich, 2012).
I can see how the use of marijuana can be associated with avoidance of coping with stressful situations in one’s life. Which creates stress, anxiety, depression and several other mental health disorders. Pharmaceutical companies who produce sleep aids and medication for anxiety, depression, nausea, and pain will probably see a decrease in their revenue if medical marijuana becomes a staple use of treatment (Fields, 2013). In review of all the data on the pros and cons of the usage of medical marijuana I can conclude that the use of marijuana can be and effective treatment for emotional disorders such as anxiety and depression.
