History along with modern times can tell you a lot about the time period. Although its created to avoid this, history repeats itself a lot. In pieces like Death of a Salesman, Malcom X and many other literature pieces, you see people struggling with identity anf finding themselves. Peoploe struggle with finding themselves as a result of the pressures that society put on them thorugh skin color, what your born into and finding success and happiness together.
People with no identy have nothing to live for. You cant find success or happiness without knowing yourself to know what you want. This is a huge problem today. Everyone wants to be like someone else, not their own person. Although it may not be our fault that drugs were brought to our streets, but it is our fault to keep getting arrested for using and selling them. Our young people grow up with the impression that breaking the law is cool and it really isn’t. Our people have no identity without somebody to show them the way. There aren’t enough role models in our communities. People to look up to and preach noral things and who practice what they preach. In Malcom X for instance, he saw his father abuse his mother and his siblings but claim to be Christian. As a child growing up, there is nothing more confusing than a father figure being a hypocrite. This builds off of the role model point. With no one to look up to with their own identity or who did things their own way, what should young African americans think without parental guidance? Every young person does not have that blessing of people at home to show them these things or to help them in their adolences process.
