Rivka’s Facilitator Biography
By: Mary Turner
I was born in Canton Georgia on March 28, 1987. I lived in Acworth but went to school in Cartersville. At the age of 16, I began working as a waitress at a restaurant called Piccadilly at Town Center Mall in Kennesaw Georgia. At the age of 18, I left Piccadilly and began working at BP baking pastries and work the cash register and work at Toys-R-Us. At 18, I began going to Chattahoochee Tech to work on my Associate’s Degree for Computer Information.
At 21 years old, I began work for an internet tech support company called Integrated Broad Band Services, which was located in Cartersville Georgia. After working there for a year, I moved to supervisor position as a Quality Assurance Analyst. As a Quality Assurance Analyst, I listened to employee’s phone conversations with customers and made sure they were polite, professional, and were helping customers to the best of their ability.
After working at Integrated Broad Band Services for 5 years, I no longer liked working with computers and having a desk job. I wanted more interaction with people and wanted to be more active than sitting behind a computer screen all day. I then made the choice to change my Associate’s Degree to Criminal Justice. I always had an interest in Criminal Justice and loved what Police do on a day to day basis.
Once I completed my Associate’s Degree for Criminal Justice, I began putting in for several Police Departments. After meeting with Cobb County, City of Kennesaw, City of Marietta, and City of Canton, I decided that the City of Canton was better fit for me and continued my hiring process. I started working for the City of Canton Police Department as a Police Officer on July 3rd, 2014. I started the Police Academy on July 5th, 2014 and graduated 3 months later. I spent 3 months in the field training program before being released to patrol on my own. After 1 year of service, I began assisting with our Police Explorers. After 1 ½ years of service, I was recommended to become a Field Training Officer. Once I had 2 years of service, I passed the Field Training Officer courses and became a Field Training Officer. Shortly after I went through the Corporal promotion board and was promoted to Police Corporal.
