City of Canton Police Department
Activity: Police Explorer Training
Commentary: Tonight, my police explorer group met at the City of Canton Police Department. Our Administrative Staff consisting of 3 officers (one of which is my facilitator Officer Mary Turner) allowed me to observe and administrate tactical scenarios. These scenarios were carried out in which officers would clear buildings, neutralize threats, and ensure officer safety. The team spent an hour and a half on training and about 30 minutes in an “Index” where the officers critique and comment on how the explorers did in their scenario. This is in preparation for our annual competition in Gatlinburg, TN on February 16-18th

Day 2 – 2/18/17
Activity: Preparation for Competition
Commentary: Day 1 – While preparing for competition we stayed in a cabin on Cole Lane in Gatlinburg, TN. We spent a vast amount of time with the officers, including my facilitator and administrator, Officer Mary Turner. During this time, I observed and noted all of Officer Mary Turners eating habits and how they affected her workouts. As in eating AFTER running, not drinking energy drinks, or consistently planning times to exercise. This helped her and myself in being awake, aware, and fully functional as we trained on tactics in our group.
Day 2 – Today, we worked on building clearing, officer down, officer safety, and dispatching calls. In preparation for competition (as previously stated), I learned that although I’ve been in this program for 6 years there is still so much I can learn.
