Senior Capstone Career Project - Product Work Log
Name: Rendaisea Deane
Product: CPR as a first responder
Date, Time, & Location:
Activity: Learned about CPR procedures and how why it is so important. I learned how to do compressions correctly and how to give proper breathes. Learn about tools used to also help guide the patient breathe during resuscitation.
Commentary: I didn’t realize how tiring compressions really are. I felt kind of embarrassed cause I started sweating while giving compressions. I felt better because my facilitator told me it was a tiring job to do. Even though I learned how to do CPR in healthcare I found myself doing compressions too slow and using the bag-valve mask wrong.
Total Time Thus Far:
2 hours and 13 minutes
Activity: Spent time today learning how to do CPR without equipment. How to give breathes to the patient and how to tilt back the head correctly. I had to practice holding the nose to take breathes and overall practice the CPR routine.
Commentary: This was quite hard because I didn’t have any equipment. I constantly had to check if the chest was rising correctly and adjusting if I did.
Time Spent: 2 hours and 30 minutes
4 hours and 43 minutes
4:00- 8:20 PM
Activity: Learned the proper placement for a AED and how to use it. Learned how to listen and to work with it while doing CPR. This was a two-man job because I had to continue doing compressions and breathes while my facilitator pretended to put an AED on my patient.
Commentary: “I'm not sure I will be able to use the AED in the hospital, but I will try to find something to demonstrate the process for my product.
Time Spent: 4 hours and 20 minutes
9 hours and 3 minutes.
Activity: I learned about different hospital codes to use in different situations. Learned about how to use the emergency phones for the codes and how to use them to communicate all around the hospital. We went to the lower floors to practice choking with adults and babies. I learned to positioning of the Heimlich and when to determine when that person will need CPR.
Commentary: It was a diverse day but It kept me interested. It was a lot to learn but my facilitator made me feel better by giving going over the material twice with me so it can sink in.
5 hours and 4 minutes
14 hours and 7 minutes
Activity: Learned about the crash cart. It has an AED, oxygen tank, and suction pump. The shelves underneath I learned had medication that only the doctor can open during the emergency. Practiced more with the AED placement and machine to get a hang of it.
Commentary: It was an overwhelming day because of the crash cart but everything else was a review. Since, it was my last day meeting my facilitator I felt more relaxed and confident that I achieved everything that I wanted to do.
