English 1 Standing Tall
In the book Standing Tall I read how people like David G. Farragut and Jaime Escalante. Where their continuous efforts to change people’s lives had never failed even when all odds were against them. The other eight Hispanic Americans had also distributed large amounts of effort to change people’s lives and their efforts had been endless. They had made people think that they have the ability to make a difference in their own and other people’s lives.
This book can teach many people to try and achieve their goals and to succeed at doing it. I believe that this is a very good book for teens. The thoughts I have on this book are that it can inspire many kids to go good things in the lives. This is the kind of book that children should be reading. I would rate this book as an informative book because it brings readers information about what these people went through to get through they ended up. It also means that readers can learn new things from these stories and life lessons.
In my opinion the information that is in the book is descriptive because it adds lots of details to the story of the Hispanic Americans. Standing Tall has many important morals that some people wouldn’t realize. For example, anything can be achieved if you have the right amount of dedication and motive. Also if you really put your mind to something it can be done easily. There are many lessons that can help people change their lives. For example, it is important to know that anybody can overcome obstacles against all odds. But even with all the amazing stories that were talked about in the book, the book could’ve been better.
In my opinion, I believe this book could’ve been more interesting in a few ways. For example they could’ve incorporated the start of the Hispanic Americans lives. Where they tell how these people started out and the steps they took to get to their top achievements. Also they could’ve talked about whether they affected any family and/or friends that had been around. In the book it would’ve been interesting if they had said whether their family helped them to get to where they were. Another important thing that could’ve been talked is if any of the Hispanic Americans had took any extracurricular activities to help them to look better for college. This is my review on this book.
