Give a brief description of your current teaching of students of ESOL background and explain how you have made an impact on their learning.
Before relocating to Hamilton, I spent 8 years at Finlayson Park School. This school provided a strong foundation of diverse cultures and a strong bi-lingual phylosiphy. We also provided an English learning programme for speakers of other languages. Ie, Maori, Tongan and Samoan units. Although, my strengths are working with maori I believe that I have the experience, skills and knoweldge to assist our learners, to become the best that they can be. We are professional practitioners, it is our job to raise student achievement. I’d like to think that all I do, will always make an impact on students learning.
2) Describe a situation when you have collaborated with colleagues, the benefits that resulted for students, and what evidence verified this benefit.
Response …Whanau Night
A cultural evening of dance and song, where students were able to perform in front of an audience and share their knowledge and understanding of there country with their families and the wider school. Proud parents and confident students was the final outcome. Very successful evening, teachers, students and parents.
3) Describe your experience in an Innovative Learning Environment (ILE) environment and how this has changed your teaching, or alternatively if you have not had ILE experience describe how you see yourself contributing to an ILE.
Response …I have not experienced being in a ILE enviroment. I’d love to contribute maori waiata, maori songs, tikanga maori (if needed) I enjoy literacy and I’m keen to share the strategies learnt over the years with these learners and collegues. Find the gaps in there learning and provide challenging yet achievable activities that will help to move them forward and beyond.
