Karl Liebknecht was born in 1871 in Leipzig as a son of Wilhelm Liebknecht and his second wife Natalie.
Wilhelm Liebknecht was a social democratic politician who founded the social democratic Party (SDP).
The period of time from 1890 to 1899 was unspectacular. He studied law and economics, absolved his official duty as a one-year-volunteer in military service and started a law office in Berlin together with his brother.
His political career started when he entered the social democratic Party (SDP) in 1900. Only one year later he was elected as a member of the town council.
During his time of being the president of the international Union of socialist youth Organization, he was in prison for 18 months because of his publication of “Militarismus und Antimilitarismus”.

While still in prison he won a seat in the Prussian Landtag and in 1912 he entered the Reichstag as the chief spokesman against the government and against the growing movement within the social democratic party.
During World War 1 Liebknecht became a leading figure in the development of opposition movements to the wartime government. He was the first in the Reichstag to vote against war credits and spoke out publicly for the transformation of the national war into civil or class war. As a consequence, the government conscripted him as a noncombatant but suspended him to fulfil his duties as a representative in the Reichstag and Prussian Assembly. In this time, he served on the Russian front, felling tree, burying the ratting dead until he suffered a physical collapse in 1915.
The fall of being expelled from the SDP brought Liebknecht into close alliance with Rosa Luxemburg. Together they provided the group “Internationale” over again as “Spartakusbund”.

Liebknecht edited the famous illegal “Spartakus Letters”, the “official” organ of the Spartakusbund.
When Liebknecht participated in a May-Day-Demonstration, in 1916 in Berlin, and called for the overthrow of the government and an end to the war he was imprisoned.
As the climate had become more revolutionary in October 1918, Karl Liebknecht was granted an Amnesty by the Government of Prinz Max of Baden.
Shortly after Phillip Scheidemann’s proclamation “deutsche Republik”, in November 1918, Liebknecht di the same but shouted “freie sozialistische Republik”.
During the time of the year change in 1918719 Karl Liebknecht was one of the founder of the Kommunistische Partei Deutschlande KPD).
Karl Liebknecht and Rosa Luxemburg were killed by the “Freikorps”-officers shortly after the abatement of the January uprising.
