My name is Peyton Lease I am a senior at Cherokee High School. I grew up in a small town in Illinois and moved to Georgia in 7th grade. Ever since I was born, I had rescue animals around me at all times. When I lost my first dog I knew that I wanted to help every single animal that crossed my path, I did not want anyone to feel the pain I felt. I wanted all animals to be in a loving home with a loving family, every animal deserves to be happy no matter how big or small. Throughout my life, I have always had a love for the arts and animals. For my senior project, I decided to make a silent art show, which means I put all my work out for sale. All of my proceeds went to the local animal shelter, Cherokee Animal Shelter, at my show I also encouraged people to bring extra donations for the animals.
Since the beginning of time, people influenced the arts in some way shape. From cave dwellers writing on the wall to therapist being able to help people throughout the world but showing them artwork or even letting them create their own artwork. Within the world today, people can create their own work out of metal, paint, ceramics, or even old fashion techniques. The artist world is a huge out of the box thought process; anyone can do it as long as you put your mind to it. When one is hurting, they can take their own pain out on their work rather than them hurting themselves, and if they really wanted to, they could sell their pain to someone who may be trying to deal with the pain they just got through
When I started the summer of junior year, I knew what I wanted to do with my senior project. I decided on doing a silent art show where all the proceeds go back to the Cherokee Animal Shelter. Throughout the whole time of working on my senior project, I knew that creating so many pieces, going to school, setting everything up and working was not going to be easy, but I knew it was worth my time and energy to help these animals. Getting a spot to set up was not as hard as I thought it would be, thanks to Cherokee Art Center I was going to have a spot where all types of artist have been. They reserved the date January 7, 2017 for my art show; little did I know that the snow was going to show up. Three days before the show, we had to cancel it and move it because of the snow; it ended up on 14th of January. When I wrote my paper I learned about how artwork I learned how people made a career out of their artwork, as I did my project I talked to numerous people who made their love of artwork into a job. I have a great deal of respect for the people who find a way to do what they love.
During this experience, I learned that it is hard to do art unless it is something that can keep your attention. I know that I will not go into the arts for a career but I will still use them in my life. Trying to work in the artistic industry can break a person’s love for art in my opinion. I decided I would like to go in and work with either endangered animals or any animal that needs my help. I would rather work with animals in ways that other are unable, rather than work on my artwork in way that I do not find appealing.
In my opinion, the senior project was a helpful way to push me in the right direction regarding my career. I now know that I do not want to go into the art world, I would rather help the animals who are unable to help themselves. The senior project is the reason that I will not be going and paying for a college and ending up changing my mind an end up paying more. I am very thankful to everyone who helped me through this journey and to the judges who took their time to look over all of the projects. Thank you to everyone who has dedicated their time and resources to My Senior Project.
