Hi everyone in 2008 I, Paul L. Allen/ Pauly was diagnosed with Skin Cancer
I was thinking to myself how did I contract this disease? I had to go to many clinics and medical facilities.
But in 2014 was the most harrowing situation in life when in 2014 I contracted a rare form of skin cancer titled:
Merkel Cell Carcinoma.
I was singing in this band and we had a gig coming up and our band (we called ourselves Hot & Cool) was
rehearsing for “Taco Thursday” on July 14, 2014. I thought that we would be able to perform our gig, but
Dr. Neligan told me “No, you have to get in with-in a week. The Merkel Cell Carcinoma is aggressive and
growing fast. So I had to tell the guys that I need some time off for about five months.
The guys were very supportive and new that I had to take care of this medical/health challenge.
I have taken time off previously from recording my album titled Pauly Cancer Survivor in 2008.
And this very devastating to me
Now I am a 64 -year- old African American who had gone through a previous bout of this debilitating disease
I was totally devastated and in a lot of pain, as the days became nearer for my surgery, but you want know who
was in the operating room with my team of Doctors was (and is still here to this day blessing me and my loved ones)?
“The Lord God Jesus Christ”! The Head Doctor!
(I’m feeling him now I as remember what it was like). How I just knew that he was with me. As I thought about
The sixth book of Joshua 1: 9 Have I not commanded you. Be strong and of good courage; Be not afraid,
neither be dismayed. For the LORD thy God is with thee whithersoever thou goest.
I had so many I V’s and Tubes, and I was hooked-up to bulb to drain the fluids that I had from the surgery.
I was prayed-up when I entered the medical clinic and I know what God
Can do, what he has done, and what he will do for those who believe in him and have faith in him sincerely.
The Lord is my salvation. So on June 30, 2014 I had an appointment at the U. W. Medical Center to remove the
I was in the ICU for 13 hours (between the operation and ICU. All I know is when I woke up from operation
Is was night time and my brother his lady friend, and I arrive at the U. W. Medical Center at 7:00 a. m
After the surgery I had to re-learn how to walk again. I was still in trauma from that rough experience.
I was hospitalized for six days. I was released on July 4th, 2014. And I took the bus home from the U. W.
I had been given special exercises for my neck and shoulders. Of course I prescribed pain medicine that
I was not used to taking like Morphine and Percocet. Of course I had lost 15 lbs. from the operation.
I would have doctor and nurse appointments for next five weeks. I had already been told that I would have
to have radiation treatment after the surgery had healed. I was already familiar with the radiation head
Doctor from a previous radiation treatment form the U. W. Medical Center previously in 2008.
This was another terrible experience because I lived approximately 35 miles from the U. W. Medical
Center and it was hard to go a lot of days, even though I know I had to. I did receive help from the
American Cancer Society, as far as rides to the U. W. Medical Facility on some days, but most of the
Time I had to get there the best way I could. I had a schedule because I was being treated for five days
One of the good things was that I got to listen and feel my music while I was receiving my radiation
I am also writing about my experience and how it has affected me. I try to always remain upbeat because
God wakes up every day. And now I have enrolled with Ashford University earning my Bachelor of
English Degree.(I am not a rock) Praise the Lord I am Skin Cancer free. God is good (all the time)!
I am also invited to The Annual MCC Dinner Meeting 2016 UW Medicine Meeting 2016 UW
Medicine Research at South Lake Union 850 Republican Street located in Seattle, WA 98109.
