Senior Project proposal
I will be monitoring pets that have suffered an accident that will require some sort of physical therapy or rehabilitation. I am going to log from the time of the initial accident through the medical procedure, medicine prescribed for pain, rehabilitation, and how he or she is at the end of all of the physical therapy and medicine. I will also log how the medicine given will effect how he/she feels and the side effects.
I would also like to log the thought process, and steps that go through the Veterinarians head from when she is first introduced to her patient.
Time is ticking
This project will be months long to help the patient recover and make a comeback to its normal self. After an accident with bone trauma it can take anywhere from 2-3 months to 5-6 months until the bone is fully healed. This project can either take up all of my senior year or just up until the second semester starting now.
This will help me for my future because, I would like to be a veterinarian and help rehabilitate wild animals that have been hurt in the wild by other animal attacks. I plan to go to UGA for Veterinary Science and move to Australia after I finish my studies and help open a reservation and animal hospital there. Animals in the wild hardly get any sort of medical help when needed and I hope to change that. After I help their injuries, I plan to let them roam on 1000 acres of land with water holes and endless amounts of hunting for food to keep them like they're still in the wild. However, I can monitor and make sure that they stay safe and healthy after their medical care.
Dr. Beth Nunn of Towne Lake Animal Hospital is the ideal candidate to be my senior project facilitator. She studied at University of Michigan and received her bachelor's degree in Biology in 2000, and later graduated Michigan State College of Veterinary Medicine, and specialized in pain management and animal rehabilitation. She is certified in canine rehabilitation through the Canine Rehabilitation Institute.
