How would you describe the organizational pattern of the chapter “Spin?” How does the structure of the chapter contribute to the theme of storytelling and memory in the novel?
It starts off with an anecdote about a time things weren’t so violent when Azar gave a disabled boy a chocolate bar, but then shifts to O’Brien breaking away and talking about himself at the current state he was in when writing the novel. This contributes to the theme of storytelling and memory because it really embodies how O’Brien was telling the story from memories as he recollected them.
How does Jensen’s development over the course of the chapter’s “Friends” and “Enemies” both advance the plot and contribute to the theme of morality and even to the theme of death?
