Judges, Senior Project
Etowah High School
Woodstock, Ga 30189
My name is Nicholas Pawlenko, a senior at Etowah High School. This senior project has been interesting and also opened up a lot to me in relation to what I have been doing. For my project I have been learning the techniques, skills, and mechanics of photography. My goals are to get better at photography so in turn I can get better at video production since it is highly recommended to practice photography and learn it as well as learning video production. Doing this will also help me pursue my goals in film by going to SCAD and letting me get a little ahead of the competition.
To aid me in my initial pursuit in photography I researched and studied the history of photography itself. I researched how the cameras have evolved over time and how because of these new advances brought brand new techniques and designs. From how the sun and silver chemicals were able to burn images of people onto cloth to the first uses of crystals and even the digital microchips inside the camera. I’ve learned quite a bit in my research into the history of photography. I was able to learn the origins of the camera and how it worked to every single era of new advancements of technology to the present day.
The product will be a blog or log of my progress of what I have learned over the duration of the past year, and what I will learn in the future. It related to the research paper because it shows what new techniques I’ve been using and attempting because of the advances in the camera technology. This entire project has revealed how lazy I am with projects that are given to us and then we are given no communication at all with sometimes super confusing instructions. The obstacles I have had to overcome in regards to myself is the fact that I am quite lazy with projects like this at times, mostly because life can be quite hard in general and to me it was more of a nuisance than anything. Then my facilitator sometimes would be out of the country since his main job requires him to travel, so I wasn’t able to get an email from him giving me my next instructions at times.
My topic and research all related to the career I want which is to becoming something like a cinematographer or even a director, or producer. All of this goes into how I can see the world of film and photography is just as much a part of it as the film part is too. I learned how much fun photography is and how crucial and vital it is to the learning process of filmography. I’d absolutely love to continue my career knowing that I already know this is what I want to do despite having a horrid time doing this project. I have been wanting to pursue this career ever since I saw that there was a video class here at Etowah High School.
The senior project, in a whole, wasn’t as fun as I thought it would be. I really hope that they get rid of it soon. The learning and application of my learning was fun but everything else was an absolute mess and didn’t make it fun at all. Either way, thank you all so much for taking your time and reading my letter to you. Thank you for your time and I hope to gladly see you soon.
