Product & Pictorial Log 1 Building a Wooden Table
Sunday, January 15, 2017. 1:00 - 2:00, 1 Hour Total
Activity Description- On Sunday afternoon, I had gone to Home Depot to gather various supplies for my wooden table project as well as some parts for several of my power tools at home. I needed to get several different wood sheets as well as blades that would suit my project's needs.
Commentary- Gathering materials for my project took me much longer than I had originally anticipated. First off, finding things at Home Depot was quite time consuming for me since I was not familiar with how the store was laid out. In addition to this, once I found the aisles where the necessary wooden material was kept, I had to search through numerous pieces of wood to find those which had no cracks or blemishes to the wood.
Photo Caption- After wandering around Home Depot for a while, I was able to find some of the materials I needed. I was surprised at how much wood costs.
Monday, January 16, 2017. 2:20 – 6:05, 4.75 Hours Total
Activity Description- On Monday afternoon, I did a variety of tasks involved with starting my table. The first task I did was to draw out parts that were for my tables frame and legs on my wooden sheets; it turned out to be a very time consuming in process. When I drew out the parts for this project, they had to be very precise; if the parts weren't near the required dimensions, I wouldn’t be able to progress in the project. In order to stay precise with the dimensions of the parts, I had to keep taking numerous measurements. After I had finished with the measurements and drawings, I went on to cut the wood. As of right now, I am waiting for my father to bring up our table saw which is currently stored in Florida. Because of this, I had to make due with a simple electric hand saw. Using this handsaw added a tremendous amount of time to my project for multiple reasons. First of all, using the hand saw cut wood at a much slower pace than a regular table saw. In addition to this, I had to move at a slow pace because it is much easier to make a mistake with a handsaw; it was very difficult to stay along with the cuts that I needed. I actually had to redraw and recut several pieces of wood because of this issue. The last task I completed this day involved gluing and clamping some parts of the wood together. In doing this, I had to make sure that I added a sufficient amount of glue as well as pressure to the wood with clamps. In addition to this I had to wipe off excess glue that came out from the glue.
Commentary- Once I started to work on my project, I realized that this would take much more time than I had originally thought. As it turned out, some of the work done can be repetitive and time consuming. This new found knowledge was not daunting to me at all; I was still very excited to learn from this experience

Activity Description- Recently, I met up with my project supervisor, Ty Wilkins. During this time, we talked about a variety of things about my project. The first thing we did was going through my project's plan. Throughout this he gave me several tips on how to accomplish certain tasks, such as how to properly handle a jigsaw that he lent to me for my project.
Commentary- I had know this person for nearly my entire life and was certain that he would be the perfect person to help me out with my project due to his many years of experience in this field. I had expected that our meeting would have been a little bit shorter, but I was glad to have obtained all of the new advice.
Photo Caption- I was excited to see my family friend and now project facilitator. He was able to give me several tips that will make this project easier as well as providing me with one of his tools.
