What is the difference between device and medium?
Device is the physical equipment that inputs/outputs data on a medium, example a printer. Whilst the medium is the material where data in place on, example paper.

These are a set of physical connections, cables which connect many different components within the CPU, such as hardware components so that they can all communicate with one another.
What does ‘bus width’ refer to?
This refers to the number of bits that can be sent at a time.
What does ‘bus frequency’ refer to?
This refers to the bus speed which is measured in Hertz.
There are two types of bus networks within the computer. Briefly describe them.
Internal bus: This bus allows the processor to communicate with the system’s central memory RAM.
Expansion bus: This can also be known as the external bus or the input/output bus. This allows the motherboard components to communicate with one another. It is also used to add new devices through expansion slots connected to the input/output bus.
Briefly describe each of the following buses.
Address Bus is a unidirectional bus. This bus transports the memory addresses which the processor wants to access in order to read or write data.
Data Bus is a bidirectional bus. It transfers the actual data and instructions which are coming or going to the processor.
Control Bus is a bidirectional bus. This transports orders which are coming from the control unit and travelling to all hardware components and vice versa.
What is the main difference between serial and parallel port?
Parallel ports have a 25-pin connector whilst serial ports have a 9-pin connector. The main difference between them is the way information is communicated. The parallel port is only able to transport information form the hard drive whilst the serial port can transfer both to and from the hard drive.
What is the main difference between analog and digital signals?
The difference between analog and digital signals is that an analog signal is a continuous electrical message while digital is a series of values that represent information. Analog is conveyed by electrical current variations. Digital signals are relayed as a series of values that a device can read, such as a digital television.
