Two of groups of 5 and one group of four• 2 boxes per group • Base MUST BE Graham Crackers!• All Edible• Goals: Make it durable, tall, and aesthetically pleasing • Must be portable • STEAM + History, ELA, Scripture (Choose two extra ones)• STEAM Graham Cracker Challenge Video Requirements The font must be easy to read from a distance and appropriate color. Description and/or purpose of the project Terry: On December 7th, 9th and 10th graders started designing a Christmas themed STEAM project. MATT: Here we need to build a skyscraper entirely out of graham crackers and will be graded off of durability, height, and design. ERM: The constraints of this project is that each group can only use 2 boxes of graham crackers and must be portable. Date range for the project (start and end dates) Team member names and roles Must include these different phases: Research• Terry: During our research phase, we looked up various buildings and decided on the Flatieron building in nyc. From here we further looked up the builders and how have skyscraper's changed throughout the years. Engineering Design• Engineering Building Phase• Matthew: We built our skyscraper by first melting marshmallow and creating the double layer of gram crackers. Then we started aligning them together to create the equilateral triangle shape. ERM: From there we started stacking them and adhering them with the melted marshmallow. Along the way one of our group members pointed out that our first idea of stacking them vertically could make it vulnerable to breaking, so we decided to change the in-between layer to horizontal. Myra: After much messy work, we used fondant to shape out the top of our skyscraper to create a cover that looked similar to snow. We completed our gram cracker skyscraper on December 16th and left it over the weekend. By the end of our time building we already knew that it wasn’t strong enough by the evident weight collapsing on the sides. But on Monday when we walked it was still standing.
