Happy Thanksgiving! We had a won- derful week exploring the Thanksgiving holi- day this past week. The students worked so hard to show what they had learned about the Pilgrims and Wampanoag Native Americans by reenacting the events of the first Thanksgiv- ing. They also did a wonderful job of plan- ning and throwing their own Manners Meal. Please view the Sway to read about and look at pictures from our Thanksgiving week. This week in Bi- ble Study we are be- ginning the season of Advent. Students will study this new season in the Church year by dis- cussing how God pre- pared the people in the Bible for Jesus's birth as well as how we can prepare for Jesus to- day. You can read the Christmas story in the Bible in Matthew 1-2 and Luke 1-2. In Math we are continuing our work on adding 3 numbers. We will focus on story problems that require adding three numbers. We will also continue to build our skills of solv- ing addition and sub- traction story problems within 20. Keep having your children solve these types of prob- lems on paper at home. In ELA we will be starting a new liter- ature unit called "Different Lands, Simi- lar Stories". We will be studying famous chil- dren's stories from around the world, look- ing at how they have similar and different characters, settings, and plots. This week we will focus on the stories Little Red Riding Hood, Lon Po Po, and Tselane. The students will take a close look at the setting in each story. We will also be going to the Se- attle Children's Thea- tre to see Stellaluna, so we encourage you to read this book with your children this week and discuss the charac- ter Stellaluna. Our phonics focus this week is the "silent e." Can your child find the si- lent e as you read books together each night? In Science we are focusing on the hu- man body. This will ex- tend from what we have learned about healthy eating, as the students will now look at the different sys- tems of the body and how to keep them- selves healthy and strong. We suggest watching the Discovery Ed video found in the Sunday email sometime this week with your child and asking ques- tions to perk their in- terest.
