Hello Families, Thank you to all of you who came to our classrooms this week to see how your child is progressing in Kindergar- ten. It has a been an exciting past week, as we have been preparing our- selves for our Manners Meal and Thanksgiving Celebration. The stu- dents have been reading poems related to the Thanksgiving, learning about their manners, studying the story of the Pilgrims and Wampa- noags, and creating art- work that reflects this time of harvest. We will continue to work on all of these projects during this short week, and con- clude the week with our special Manners Meal on Wednesday. In Bible Study we will be focusing on giving thanks to God this week. We will look at the life of David, and how he gave thanks to God and praised him in all circum- stances, even when life was hard. We will also look at how a thankful heart willingly gives to others. Discuss with your child all the many blessings in your lives and how you can use those blessings to give to others. In Math the stu- dents are applying their addition and subtraction facts to solve story problems. As students complete story problems during readiness work at home, have them write the math sentence on paper, putting a box where the missing num- ber belongs. Then, have them use a specific strategy (number line, drawing pictures, or us- ing objects) to solve for the missing number. We will continue working on story problems that in- volve adding three num- bers this week. In ELA we will continue working on our Poetry Unit. The stu- dents will continue lis- tening to different arti- cles of poetry, identify- ing the feeling and sens- es they hear in the po- ems. The students will create their own poems that use sense and feel- ings this week. In Social Studies we will continue learning about the Pilgrims, Na- tive Americans, and the first Thanksgiving. The students will act out the first Thanksgiving of 1621, and demonstrate the positive results of working together. On Wednesday, November 23rd, the students will have their Manners Meal to show how Thanksgiv- ing is celebrated today. We will be learning how to set a table and dinner etiquette to prepare for the meal. We encourage you at home to discuss with your child what good manners are, prac- tice them at your meals. In Science we will continue to learn about healthy eating. Students have voted for the food items for their Manners Meal and in- cluded all 5 main food groups! This week they will sort foods in gro- cery adds into the dif- ferent food groups. Discuss with your child the benefits of eating healthy and how it nour- ishes our growing bodies and minds!
