I name is Michaela Albertini. I am a senior at Etowah High School. I decided to make baby blankets for my senior project. I decided that I wanted to make these baby blankets because it had a personal meaning to me. I am donating some of the blankets I make to the nicu at northside Atlanta, where my daughter stayed for 2 weeks after she was born. I thought this was a great opportunity to give back to the hospital that took such good care of my daughter and I. Now that I am graduating in two months, I have applied to nearby schools to further my education. After graduating, I plan to go to Reinhardt University. I hope to be a counselor for my future career.
My research topic was fashion. I researched how the fashion industry has made an impact today. Technology and new inventions have made a tremendous impact in today's fashion industry. Through my research of fashion, I learned how the fashion industry has changed and evolved over the years. I also learned about the different jobs that are available in fashion. I also researched how other countries had different roles in fashion. I found the research I did very interesting.
My product was making baby blankets. This was related to my research paper because baby fashion and accessories are very popular today. Baby clothes and accessories are sold at many stores and online shops. I plan on starting my own online business soon to sell the blankets I have made. I have made over 20 blankets so far and I hope as my business continues, I will sell more. I will be using Facebook to advertise the blankets I am making to get the word out about my business.
I first had to gather all my materials I needed. I purchased multiple different patterns of fabric to mix and match. I made sure I had a variety of different colors of fabric so that my potential customers had some choices. A obstacle I have had is measuring out the blankets correctly. I overcame this struggle but practicing over and over until I got the fabric measured out evenly. This has made me work harder and not give up until I mastered the skill of measuring fabric.
This project was a learning stretch for me because I didn’t have any experience with making blankets. I want to thank my wonderful facilitator, Susan Langley, for helping me with this project. I want to thank my mom for purchasing some of my materials for me to start making the blankets. I had a great time with this project and I am happy with how it has turned out. Thank you, judges, for your time.
