☒ Begin inspection, body and tires, start at the front of vehicle, down passenger side, across back, and up drivers side.
☐ Check under hood, oil, coolant, brake fluid, wiper fluid, steering, general condition of engine compartment.
☐ Check signal lights, brake lights, (If there are 3 brake lights, they all need to be working properly), horn, windshield wipers, tag light. Check Tag on back for correct date.
☐ ADDITIONAL: 16ft/24ft/26ft – Check cab for marker lights, check box for marker lights, check DEF fluid, check Lift Gate.
CHECKING THE DRIVER
☐ Adjust seat, PUTS ON SEATBELT.
☐ Adjust all Mirrors (STRESS IMPORTANCE OF MIRROR ADJUSTMENT)
☐ Allows proper warmup of vehicle. ( 24ft – 26ft) turn key and allow computer to give start mode.
☐ Puts vehicle in proper gear, starts moving vehicle slowly, safely watching mirrors as they proceed forward.
☐ Checks traffic conditions, (USES SIGNALS) before pulling into traffic.
☐ Maintains proper FOLLOWING DISTANCE at different speeds. (NO TAILGATING).
☐ Anticipates actions of other Drivers and Pedestrians
☐ Yield RIGHT OF WAY to OTHER VEHICLES and YIELD RIGHT OF WAY to PEDESTRIANS.
☐ Keeps eyes on road, drives with both hands on the wheel, steers smoothly without erratic motion.
☐ Maintains PROPER SPEED, within posted limits. Checks MIRRORS PERIODICALLY.
☐ Approaches intersection at a speed at which vehicle could be stopped if necessary. (COVER FOOT OVER BRAKE THROUGH INTERSECTIONS).
☐ Check traffic in all directions. Check for PEDESTRIANS.
☐ Gives RIGHT OF WAY to vehicles in the intersection.
☐ Stop before the stop line at red lights and stop signs.
☐ Bring vehicle to a full stop. (NO SLOW ROLLING FORWARD)
PASSING ONLY WHEN NECESSARY
☐ Checks ahead and behind, using mirrors to make sure passing room is adequate. Using SIGNALS to indicate their intention.
☐ Allows ample room before cutting back into lane, USING SGINAL to indicate lane change. DO NOT PASS ON DOUBLE YELLOW LINES.
☐ Does not attempt to pass when traffic flow is moving at or about posted speed limit.
☐ Approaches turn at proper speed, GIVE SIGNAL at least 100ft before turn.
☐ Turn from proper lane, maintain proper speed on turn watch distance to curb, avoid cutting corner.
☐ Checks mirrors periodically for traffic.
☐ Approaches turn at proper speed, GiVE SIGNAL at least 100ft Turn from proper lane (usually adjacent to centerline.
☐ Maintain safe speed, Check mirrors periodically for traffic.
☐ Slow down when approaching railroad crossings, look in all directions. (UNCONTROLLED) no Flashers or arms. If you see a train stop at the line. (DO NOT ATTEMPT TO BEAT A TRAIN). (CONTROLLED) if arms and flashing lights are down, stop at the line. (DO NOT GO AROUND FLASHING ARMS).
☐ Maintain same gear before and during crossing.
BACKING AND PARKING
☐ Stops in correct position to back. (NO BACKING ON BLIND SIDE). If there is no other option, then get someone to help you proceed to back.
☐ Get out of vehicle and look behind you, look up for awnings or overhanging objects.
☐ SOUND HORN, start backing slowly less than 2 MPH.
☐ Brakes smoothly without excessive use of brake.
☐ Check backing on Reg. vehicles-docks, buildings, alleys, PARKING LOTS. Always encourage driver (DO NOT BACK IF AT ALL POSSIBLE).
ADDITIONAL BACKING 16FT/ 24FT/ 26FT
☐Add 3 different backing test to driver, LOW DOCK, HIGH DOCK, RAMP, watch and TEACH about AWNINGS, POWER LINES, TREES, PEDESTRIANS and other objects that may appear while they are backing. CHECKING MIRRORS periodically and backing under 2MPH.
☐ Makes full use of MIRRORS. Secures Unit, SETS PARKING BRAKE shuts off engine, BLOCK WHEELS WITH CHOCKS.
☐ Drivers is COUTEOUS toward other drivers.
☐ Driver is willing to take Instructions and Suggestions.
☐ Driver observes and obeys signs, signals, posted speed limits and or Police.
