Product: Expectations vs reality survey
January 16, 2017; 1:00 pm- 4:00pm; Freedom Middle School
Activity: I met with facilitator at Freedom middle school and talked about the things eight grade teachers tell students to “prepare” students for high school. We thought of the top ten things that they tell students about high school and I wrote them down and took notes. We also talked about the best way to give the survey, and she suggested using survey monkey. She said that the students there were used to using survey monkey so it would be super simple for them to complete it. I also spoke with the principal of Freedom Middle School to ask her permission about giving my survey out. She gave me permission if I created a permission slip.
Commentary: Most of the things that eighth grade teachers tell students about high school are not true. They feed them lies and in my opinion I find that wrong and misleading.

January 19, 2017; 4:00 pm- 8:00pm; My house
Activity: I typed up a permission slip for the student’s parents, stating “if they wish for their child not to participate in my survey then they could email their child’s first period teacher.” After that I emailed it to my facilitator to send out to all of the parents. After that I took the notes that I gathered from my facilitator and started thinking of questions for my survey. Once I thought of the questions I put them on survey monkey and created two of the same survey and named one Expectations of High School and the other Reality of High School.
Commentary: It took me a while to figure out how I wanted to word the questions for my survey. Once I figured out the wording I wanted to use I plugged them into survey monkey and it was fairly easy to figure out.

March 6, 2017; 2:30pm- 3:30pm; Cherokee high school
Activity: I spoke with Ms. Biello about sending my permission slip to the entire freshman class via email. I also spoke with Ms. Green about sending my survey out to all of the ninth grade literature teachers.
Commentary: Ms. Biello had to speak with Mr. Miller before sending out the permission slip to make sure it was okay with him.
Time Spent:1 Hour
Total Time Thus Far:8 hours
March 12,2017; 4:00am-9:00pm; My house
Activity: I received all of the data from the surveys and I started creating the power point that I will be presenting to the eighth grade class. I covered all of the questions that were asked in the survey so they would know the truth about high school. I also included tips to help them succeed throughout their high school years.
Commentary: I feel that including tips will be encouraging to the eighth graders. I know when I was scared to go to high school and I wish I knew the things that I will be sharing with them when I was beginning as a freshman.
Total Time Thus Far: 13 hours
March 21,2017; 12:00pm-2:00pm; Freedom Middle School
Activity: I presented My power point to the eighth graders. I also answered any questions that they had about high school.
Commentary: The students really enjoyed it. Some of the students said they feel a lot better about going to high school now that they are aware of how high school really is. Others told me that they really enjoyed the tips that I put in my power point .
