While a rubric or state framework play a critical role in deﬁning instruction, the conversations themselves act as the true catalyst for professional learning and ongoing growth. Enhance your leadership skills by learning how to design and hold collaborative conversations that translate performance ratings into focused professional learning. Develop the capacity for effective listening, providing quality feedback and engaging in challenging conversations. Craft and utilize guiding questions that support reﬂection and generative learning, while creating a quality environment for effective conversations and collaboration. Change the way the conversation unfolds and see enhanced instructional improvements as well as increased student achievement. 1. Learn conversational structures that develop teachers’ and administrators’ capacities to reﬂect, self-assess, and establish realistic goals. 2. Apply to state and local performance evaluation rubrics to establish a shared language around instructional practice and improvement. 3. Develop effective performance conversations that link leadership and learning, teaching standards, classroom observations, student work, and performance data. 4. Create an environment for honest and reﬂective conversations that foster a constructive climate around performance evaluations. 5. Promote active participation in the conversation, supporting generative learning.
