Teaching writing can be a feat – the process, genres, behaviors, skills, qualities! In this workshop, you will have the opportunity to unpack it all, with the support of The Writing Strategies Book (*included). Participants will learn how to go beyond writing checklists and tips that tell writers “what to do”, and will move towards crafting explicit, clear strategies that teach children “how to do”. This Heinemann Professional Development is designed to explore effective feedback and prompts to coach students as they work toward their independent writing goals. Participants will learn different structures for teaching (individual conferences/small groups) that allow teachers to respond flexibly to children’s growing strengths and needs. *Minimum enrollment is required to run this session.
