Chapter 12 Summary
Prescription, or script as another term, are instructs for pharmacist to know what medication would be given to the patient, the specific dose and dosage that is stored behind the counter. The prescription is given information about the patient date of birth, name address, and the refill. Also what is on the script will be the information on the doctor. To get the appropriate doses for an adult or any one with similarities with families of names, to help identify the right patient and have them confuse with anyone else. Dates of the prescription are important and are written to keep a specific treatment plan. The prescriber is most likely the physician, MD, doctor of medicine or DO, but other prescribers could be dentist, podiatrist, physician assistant and so forth. In some states some pharmacist can permit to prescribe thought the process of collaboration drug therapy management, in which the pharmacist has an argument with the physician’s drug of choice to the patient. Another method of receiving a prescription is by having it be orally given by phone by the physician with the listed information, and then the pharmacies is required to wright it down immediately of the oral prescription. Prescription may also be transfer electronically to the pharmacies. Those patient that are in institutional settings are not able to receive their medication by picking it up and there for have to get a special order form to have to their person location. Technician have to go over these forms carefully to make sure they have right number of doses and medication. Some medication error can occur with wrong indication of the abbreviation because many can have more than one meaning leading to it being misinterpret or even misinterpreted of scripters due to poor hand writing.
