Local Remodeler: John Joseph
By Lindsey Garrett
Most would think that a hard working dad with a full time job would have no time for extra work at the end of the day. When it comes to John, that is not the case. With experience in remodeling and replacements, John enjoys redesigning and building projects in his free time.
“I really enjoy building and remodeling as something to do in my spare time because it helps me get my mind off of things and keeps me busy. It provides me with additional knowledge in a field I do not myself to have as a profession. I teach myself new things in every project that I complete.”
John has been remodeling as a hobby ever since he was out of high school. “I have always loved doing it because over the years I have learned the tricks to being efficient and getting the job done the way it should be done. It’s all about self-guidance and motivation.” Aside from the tricks he has learned, there have also been obstacles during his experience. “I have faced many bumps in the road as I have completed projects. One of the biggest lessons I have learned from this hobby is to never give up on something that you have committed to. When times get hard your mind will begin to turn towards the negative side of things, but really you should never doubt yourself and you should always believe you can get the job done because it is always worth it in the end.”
He had completed projects such as remodeling kitchens, bedrooms and bathrooms. He lays sheet rock, carpets, paints and many other things. He has found that his favorite types of projects are the smaller room simply because it seems to always have the biggest noticeable changes. “My favorite project that I have done was a bathroom in a huge house in Alpharetta. I tore apart the whole room and started from scratch. The marble counter tops were my favorite part because it really changed the whole look of the place.”
He wishes to continue his hobby throughout his life and even into retirement when the time comes down the road!
