Do middle grades students have a good grasp of the size of one million? In this activity for grades 4-6, they develop a better sense of one million by working with blocks of 10 or 100, and then expanding the idea until a million is reached. To help them relate to such a large quantity, they try to answer such questions as, “Have you been alive a million days? Hours? Minutes? Seconds?”
