Which two protagonists (each from a different story) in the short stories we have read did you find most interesting and why? What actions, change, or conflict did these two protagonists encounter that made them dynamic and interesting characters? You may compare and contrast the qualities of each as part of your answer or simply discuss one and then the other. The two stories I had been most interesting that I read was Greasy Lake by T.C. Boyle and The Cask Of Amontildao, what made the dynamics of these stories so interesting was unforeseen plot twist for in in Greasy Lake what turned into a simple vacation ended being a total escape form Greasy Lake, then with The Cask turned out being a whole plot to trap Fronodo in the catacombs.
Literature, as opposed to commercial fiction, is mostly about "revelation." in the short stories there are several epiphanic moments when a character, in a moment of conflict, must confront how he or she will "live" his or her life. It is a moment of decision based upon some important "life lesson" that the protagonist has likely leaned or perhaps even rejected. Select one of the ten short stories and describe this moment of decision in the plot and how it is the climax of the story. Lastly, connect this climax to the theme of the story. An easy story to explain this is An Hour, is the story when protangist is happy and feels free that her fact that her husband is dead and changes on being open, allowing the reader to see her internal side.
Comment on why symbols are important in literary devices in short fiction and then identify a single symbol in one of the short stories. Define and describe why you believe this item to be symbolic and whether the characters see it as symbolic or whether it is only symbolic to the audience, i.e. (the reader). Lastly, how does the symbol affect the theme of the story? Using symbolism in stories help the reader obtain accurate thoughts of scene and time secondly, helps comprehending mix feeling and thoughts on characters.
