Dear Dean and Members of the Academic Appeals Committee:
I am writing to appeal my current academic status. I am currently on Probation/Final Academic Program in the Psychology Applied Behavior Analyst program at Kaplan University.
I am currently on Probation due to a lot of circumstances that got me to this point, I had a hard time with my week 3 and week 6 paper, with both of them papers I worked with the writing center to increase my skills of professional writing, my papers were not written in college language and I know that I had this problem and have been working on it, through the writing center as well as signing up for online tutoring, my final paper according to the professor I did much better on, but what hurt my grade was the two papers that I didn’t get a good grade on, that I didn’t do good on, on my own I went through and made the changes on my paper just to learn from my mistakes. This is my first time receiving a grade of a C since I started my program and I am a hard worker, I had a GPA of 3.0 and maintain that up until now, as well as in my Bachelor Degree and Associates Degree. I haven’t missed too many classes, and I do turn in all my work on a timely manner.
I already knew that I was going to be placed on probation so before it happened I reached out to Debra Page and asked her questions about probation and what steps do I need to take next, I am going to tutoring all this term, just to practice my writing that is where my focus should be at, that is my major problem, they offer tutoring in the writing center, also I plan on going up to the college and getting one on one tutoring from the tutor at the Indianapolis location. I also will ask for help more from the professor and the writing center instead of trying to figure it out on my own.
The steps that I will take to ensure that I don’t fall below an B, is to work on my writing through the writing center they offer the tutoring Sunday through Thursday, I will attend all of them each week to get better at my writing skills. I will have to contact the school to see when they will have tutoring this term and after that I will attend one session per week, to get that face to face tutoring and that one on one help that I need. I will start asking for help if I get stuck on something and start reaching out more to my professor whenever I feel stuck.
My plan this term and the rest of the classes I got left is to work with the professor and to make sure that I am participating in the writing center, I will go to class every day that there is class, and I will ask for help when I need it, I will attend tutoring when it is offered online and in person, as well as practice on my writing at home too. I will continue to go to tutoring until I graduate just to get the help that I need to write on a Master Degree level.
Thank you for your time in reviewing my appeal. If you have further questions, I may be reached via email at
email@example.com@yahoo.com at any time day or night.
