I believe school should start at 10:00 a.m. instead of 7:30- 9:10 a.m. elementary-high school.
I believe this because scientific studies has proven our brains aren't 100% functional until 10:00 a.m. Because we wake up at 6:00 a.m.-7:00 a.m. We are tired and grumpy and usually don’t want to get out of bed. School starting so early is bad especially if you have sports, band, or anything going on the previous day causing you to stay out late, unable to go to bed early. Speaking of going to bed early, it doesn’t always mean you won't be tired, it just means a little extra rest. Waking up in the morning can be difficult and so having a later school start time would be great for morning people to get everything done and night people to get an extra hour of sleep before having to get up.
On the other hand, yes, starting school early can get them out later as well as give them more time in the day. What's wrong with that though is the fact that having tests in the morning, especially when you're a night person, can get really difficult. Especially when you're still tired, haven't eaten, and your mind wanting to function yet so you aren't able to focus. This is why school needs to start at 10:00 a.m., kids will have time to get dressed, eat, gather their stuff, and have time to properly wake up before having to go to school and learn so they get more out of the eight hours we're forced to stay there. When you have to stay in a building full of people you don’t like, cramped in a small room, learning stuff you aren't into by a teacher who wants to go home, wouldn't you wish for a little more time in the morning? Just an hour or two extra to prepare and get ready for what's to come? In one hour you could cook breakfast. In one hour you could shower, change, and brush your teeth. In one hour you could check your bag to make sure everything you need. Most people wake up an hour or two before they leave for school, wouldn’t waking up at 8 a.m. be much more preferable over 6? Teachers and staff come to school around 5 to 6 a.m. Wouldn’t you rather come at 7 to 8? Everyone gets more sleep and more time to get dressed, depending on when you wake up, so two hours extra that you could spend sleeping, dressing, eating, or even relaxing sounds great.
Your brain works fully at 10:00 a.m. going and writing notes, taking tests, remembering information, etc., etc. all during 8-10 a.m., 1st and second period isn't good, our brains will be able to retain a lot of the information but at the same time forget a lot throughout the day. Our brains don’t properly start working until 3rd period. That’s an hours worth of learning before we're ready. On top of that not everyone learns at the same pace, is as good at remembering, and are as interested in the topic as everyone else. Young kids are having to do all this but even earlier at 7:40 a.m., their young minds are still developing, they definitely shouldn’t be forced to go to school so early. School should start at 10:00 a.m. for everyone elementary-high school.
