Hello, my name is Kimsha Park and my Senior Project is on drug trafficking/narcotics investigation. This field has been something that I have been interested in since I joined the Canton Police Explores. At first before I joined I aspired to become a police officer. But once I had a chance to experience what it is like to be a police officer, I decided that maybe I should focus on another area of the field. So, I chose drugs/narcotics investigation, something that I was not confident about but wanted to try out. Originally growing up I strived to be a lawyer. My family had strong core values and my parents teaching to look from others point of view not just mine. I felt like maybe something in the field of law would be something that I would be interested in. I figured that my senior project was the best time to experiment in this field.
I did my research paper on the drug trafficking industry in the United States. In my paper, I discussed how the effects of drug trafficking puts a plague on society. I go on to explain the different agencies the government sets up to put a stop to drug trafficking. I go in detail on how DEA\ICE special agents find drug trafficker and the problems they face in doing so. By clarifying and delegating how important a DEA or ICE agent is to our country, I began to realize how dangerous this job really was; at that point I began to question myself. Do I really have what it takes to put my mind and body into the stressful situations like those proposed in being an agent? I still ponder at this question even after I come to a close of my project. No matter how stressful the job is, I still think that it is a wonderful job to have. At that it is probably one of the best jobs to have in the government as of now.
My product is the experience I have gained from my facilitator and from the Canton Police Explores. I started out by joining our local explores group and learning law enforcement first hand Then later this last year I got in contact with a Narcotics enforcement officer, and together she and I simulated a fake scenario. In it, we end up catching a drug trafficker in his tracks. She instructed me on how to write out an affidavit, and then trained me on things to look for when investigating. In my paper I discussed the problems faced upon when tracing a drug trafficker. And my product deals directly with learning and being educated on problems a lot of investigators face when tracking.
Before I started this project, I had the burning desire to be in law enforcement. As my I complete my project and gather all the information and experience I have collected over the last few months. I have concluded that this is not a career I should take on. I realize that being a person that up holds the law is different from being a person that enforces the law. Quite frankly I am not an aggressive person, I’m a positive, outgoing, happy go luck type. Honestly this is a great job, and I am still interested. My personality simply does not fit the part. Maybe later on in life having a career in law enforcement would be great for me, but now is not the time.
This project is something I will I will hold near and dear to my heart forever. I have made a wonderful friend and had a blast doing it. This project has true changed my life and has made me grow so much this past year. I am surely thankful for this project and to everyone who was involved. Thank you so much for taking the time out of your day to listen to my experience. This truly means the world to me.
